Hi!!
This seems to be a common problem on GM SUV's you usually get the *thump* somewhere between the time of releasing the brake pedal and hitting the gas pedal, so you could essentially be not in motion yet. That's how the 'slip-yolk thump' worked anyway.

The shaft is solid, but there is a traditional slip spline section where it connects to the transfer case. The transfer case rear output has a longish "snout" to accommodate the slip spline (move axially). Most of the time, applying grease to the slip spline makes the problem go away.

Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

This happens as they get older you get a little play in drivetrain I cant see how much play you have but most is probably coming from transfer case chain stretched. for some of your clunk on take off remove driveshaft and grease the splines on yoke they will stick and then bump on take off. that may be a lot of what you feel. it is a cheap thing to try and might take most if not all of the noise you hear in traffic

that is way too much play sounds like the chain in there is stretched and needs replacing. needs to be looked at before it tears something else up. it is a big job and should be done by an experienced tech. or look into a rebuilt unit

Look for the "cig" fuse in the underwood fuse block. If it is blown there will be no power to the ALDL. This will cause the scan tool not to work.

Cadillac escalade - rear end **** in reverse

Sounds like a transfer case problem, this may require a replacement transfer case. Not what you wanted to hear, try making sure the emergency brake is not frozen or the emergency brake cable is not stuck.

The transmission is clunking when I accelerates.

Might be the play in the drive shaft or play in the pinion gear.

Is it only when you are moving?? If so then it could be your tranny, but i would replace the universal joints in the drive shaft first. hint hint cheaper first.
