The water pumps at the bottom have a hole and if you lose water through that hole is because it is damaged

Water leaking out of? water pump area? behind what looks like a big gear-like thing...1988 750iL

It sounds like it could be the water pump. Before (most) water pumps go out, it will start a tiny drip out of the bottom of it. There is a hole made on the bottom of the pump itself. So, when the seal starts to wear out, it will begin to "weep", letting you know that it needs replacing. The hole itself is called a "weep hole". That is what it sounds like as best as I can guess from your description. The water pump will have a belt going around it to make it spin, internally. The pulley on the outside of the pump is what the belt will attach to.
I hope this helps, let me know what you find out.

I dont know if the water **** is bad or if there are busted hoses, but I see water squirting out of a little L shaped hose and water runs out at the bottom. If I buy a new water pump what hoses do I buy as...

Water pumps usually have a weep hole on the bottom of the snout. This is put there so when the seals go bad you will know from the water leaking out. Try to look for that weep hole and see if coolant is coming from there before spending money on a pump. If the pump does not look as if it has been leaking then maybe its just the hose.
Not knowing what Pontiac car (or Truck) you are working on and what hose specificly. When asking for the hose at the store just tell them where it goes to. Water pump bypass, water pump to intake, water pump to heater core, etc..

Coolant in the block, it is either head gasket or water pump. I think it is the water pump , how far down do you have to go to get at the water pump on a 2.7litre

I dont know how you learnt about engines but if some ones been telling you about it then there up the creek,as
COOLANT has to be in the block and in the heads and in the heater as its a water cooled engine. BUT if you mean the water is in were the oil is then you have got a problem like either a cracked head/or a blown head gasket/ a cracked block /or just a lnlet manifold water jacket gasket or cracked , But tell me has the engine overheated in the past 4 days of driving/has the engine lost a lot of coolant/has the engine been running rough??????????????? if yes to any of these then changing the water pump isent going to do anything for you except waste your money as water pumps have to have a bad groaning noise and loss of water running out of the front of engine going or not .
BUT wont put water in the oil ..
So let me know what the answers are as soon as poss so we can see if we can fix your car. Ron

Water Pump

I would check the thermostat first; its the easiest to get to and usually the first to go. Unfortunatly if it is bad it usually takes the pump with it when it goes : ( My Fathers car is going through the same thing. But his pump is bad as well.
