Check your gas cap first.

Replace the cap and have the code cleared at Autozone. If the problem comes back, look for cracks in the lines between the gas tank and the evap canister behind the battery.

Evaporative system

There are a number of components in this system. If you go to Autozone, Advance, or Oreillys they will scan for FREE if you have a Code light (check engine light).

If that is where you had the car looked at, you did not get a complete answer, you need the Code number

Sometimes a simple gascap is to blame if it is not tight. Or the hoses running to the evaporator cannister may leak and take a "smoke" test to find the leak. There are often electric switches to make the fumes flow when they need to and a bad switch will stop the system from working.

I hope my solution is helpful. You need a better diagnostic result to find the problem.

P0455 (gross leak detected), how do I replace the evap hose on my '02 Durango?

It is common for the chrysler evaporative hoses to split where they bend- they were preformed in a manner that left those areas vulnerable.

The carbon canister is likely one area where the hose is cracked, the hoses just slip on. It is under the left side of the vehicle attached to the frame. The original hose is likely also split at the other bend where it comes up under the power distribution panel on the inner left fender under the hood.

You can cheat a little bit by making the right angles with old right angled silicone spark plug boots with a short section of metal or plastic tubing to mate it with your old hose if it is in decent shape or if you wnat to replace it.

You can locate the cracked hoses with a shot of carb cleaner. When you find the leak area, the engine speeds up. While not a bad idea to replace all evaporative hoses, it is not always a requirement.

My 2000 dodge durango revs up and down while driving also while stoped at a stop light or even in park

This is a general suggestion (not Durango-specific) for this type of problem: check your air and vacuum hoses for cracking or leaks. A hose may be deforming (to let a leak in) and then flexing back to normal (not leaking), resulting in an oscillation.

One side has B+ voltage the dark green with orange stripe wire ,the other goes to the PCM , which will suppy a ground when triggered . You can test this with a test light . or you can buy a noid light at the parts store . There is a leak somewhere in the evaporative emission control system. The best way to test that is have a smoke test done on it to find out where the leak is. You'll have to call around to see if any repair shops have a smoke machine, or call a dealer.
