Why can't i get the bottom bolt off of an alternator on a 93 geo storm? I removed the top bolt and then got the bottom bolt loose. When I try to pull the bottom bolt out it stops on the tire well. I...

You may not have remove the bolt completely to get the alternator out. Try removing the alternator with the bolt out as far as it will go, or, remove the bracket that the bolt is in. Failing that, try sticking a 2 by 4 down between the engine and the fender wall and pry against something strong on the engine. It will flex a certain amount on the rubber motor mounts and may allow enough room to sneak the bolt out.

Pulling an alternator

Removing the rear-mounted alternator on early 1990s Civics and CRX can be frustrating. After removing the upper adjusting bracket bolt and the lower pivot bolt, the alternator can *almost* come out the top and almost fits behind the intake manifold.

The only easy exit path is out the left wheel well. Side access requires removing the wheel and unfastening three of the plastic retainers holding the upper end of the splash guard. But even this doesn't provide quite enough room. You need to tuck the alternator back under the intake, unbolt the lower alternator bracket (two bolts, 14mm socket) before the alternator can be removed.

The tools needed:

10mm socket -- alternator power connection, battery terminal
12mm wrench -- adjusting bracket
14mm socket -- adjusting bracket, pivot bolt, alternator bracket

1990 new yorker alternator replacement

You are right about removing the motor mount. You have to support the engine with a jack. Use a piece of plywood between the jack and the oil pan. Remove the motor mount and you should be able to lift the engine up about 2-3 inches with the jack. Remove the serpentine belt and then you should have enough room to remove the alternator.

I have 97 mitsibishi 3000GT alternator not workin got all the bolts off but how does it come out top or bottom?

the only way to really remove it is to take it out from the bottom, but get ready for a project. The only way to take it out of the bottom is to take the drive axle out, luckily you do not have to take it out of the transmission though. Good luck

1998 Grand Voyager needs alternator replaced

First I removed both bolts to the alternator and and then a horizontal bracket. Because the alternator is on the backside of the engine I removed all the bolts (except one I could not reach) to the vertical bracket that holds the top bolt of the alternator that I could reach which allowed me to move the vertical bracket enough to wiggle the unit between the side of the engine and hoses and wires that run in the area. It is tight but there is just enough room to remove and reinstall the alternator.
