First remove all the water from your system by draining the radiator, it's best to do it this way so you can add new coolant and keep the mess to a minimum, after your water is drained, go ahead and remove the heater core feed lines.

  1. Remove top of dash pad, do this by removing several screws located under the foward lip of the pad, don't forget the screws in the defroster vent holes!
  2. Remove the lower trim panel from the underside passenger side dash ( if there is one there)
  3. Look under the dash on the passenger side and you will see the plastic box in which houses the heater core, remove all the screws that surround this box, there will be one screw on the top that will be very difficult to get at, this is why you have removed the top of the dash so you can get at it with two hands,if you need to see this screw get outside of the car and look down at the dash from the passenger side and then your going to have to depend on feeling with your hands.
  4. At this point you should have the plastic box off and now your looking directly at the heater core, the core is held in place by a steel clamp fastened with screws, remove these screws, and remove the clamp.
  5. Now it's time to remove the heater core , get some plastic sheeting and lay it around the passenger foot well because there going to be some water in the core yet, pull it out gently, you might have to wiggle and gently pull, take your time, it should come out fairly easy.
  6. Once you have the old core out, it's time to install the new one, I can't tell you how important it is at this point to be very patient when installing the new core, you may have to slightly bend the new core tubes to get them through the firewall, you may end up taking it out a couple of times BE CAREFULL!!!!!!
  7. Once you have sucessfully got the core in place, install the core clamp, then re-assemble

Make sure that after you have installed everything and you fill your system with water, slide your heat temp control to full heat the check everything for leaks!
Hopefully I have not forgotten anything, it's been a while since I have done this!
Good luck!

This is the most general answer you will be able to get. I dont know of a mechanic that would even be able to say oh its a 97 ive changed that heater core a million times. Let me wright you out step by step directions. Any Better then the people who get paid 25,000 dollars to do a chiltons guide. You couldve saved yourself 10 dollars and used that to buy your manual and youd be fine. Well on your way.

If you choose to not use this solution please dont even bother with rating it.

Thanks,

Nathan

you shouldnt have to be told to buy a chiltons manual. Cause Most people that do the work themselves invest in the manual when they invest in the vehicle. i have chiltons guides for every vehicle ive ever owned and the 3 i currently have. How can you assume to do the work your self with out the guide on how to do it yourself. I wish 9 bucks would get me that far.

    best of luck,

    Nathan

i don't think you spoke to any professionals about your problem. I think im the only person that has ASE certified under there experience. This is a common downfall to FixYa.com. People like to parse off general knowledge. While not actually giving a real solution, other then pay someone else.

Trying to locate heater core location

Inspect/Replace If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

Change heater cord on 2005 hyundai sonata

You first have to drain the radiator, then you diconnect the heater hoses to your heater core .in the engine compartment. Then you remove the cover off the heater core assembly under the passenger side , under the glove box. Then you take straps off the heater core off. and replace . Install every thing you removed previously and refill your radiator and your done.

I believe the rear heater cord has a leak. no visible leak, just the antifreeze smell when the rear heat is on. where is this heater cord located and estimated cost to replace also , any recall?

You only have one heater core and its located up front. If you smell it in the back its all the same vent system.

Heater cores are usually less than 50 bucks but the cost to install varies depending on who does it. Best bet is it call for an estimate,
No recall on this issue

Heater cord ford expedition 01 5.7liter where is it located and how hard is it to change?

Dear Heater Core Hunter,
For your 01 expedition, that has the 5.4 liter motor in it, the heater core is located in the evaporator case assembly, where the blowermotor itself is located,This is a pretty darn good labor intensive job, if you open the passenger front door and get down onyour knees and look up underneath the dash.....that's what you're going to be removing and replacing, the heater core is inside of this black case. Please get back to me if you have any more questions...I'M HERE TO HELP!!!
