I am interested in buying a toyota camry but it has a broken tie rod. is this a costly fix and is there any other concerns as a result of a broken tie rod?

tie rod ends are not to costly to replace but check the Ball joints and the front end during repair and then have a car allindment (ps because it is a foriegn model it might cost alittle more than a domestic.

How much does it cost to replace a tie rod on a 1998 grand prix

the part is about $50.00, the install and the front end alignment that is needed after new part, about $200, so about $200 is an average charge in a tire shop, more at the dealer.

Can someone tell me what Tie Rod Ends are? I've been told by my mechanic that I need to replace them. Why does the car need to be realigned when I get this service?

The tie rod is part of the steering mechanism. If you replace these they will not be exactly the same as the old ones which may have changed shape over time etc... Here is a very good site for info relating to your car and helps with all the technical stuff...

to change a tierod on 2001 malibu, jackup and remove front tire, next locate the nut holding tierod on tire side, remove cotter pin and loosen but do not remove the castle nut from the tie-rod end ball joint stud. then install a small puller and break loose the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle. remove nut and detach tie-rod end. (I forgot to mention before taking tie-rod end off of vehicle, loosen the tie-rod end jam nut and mark the position of the tie-rod end on the threaded portion of the tie-rod. you can also count the number of turns to take off so you can put it back on.) make sure the new tie-rod end is aligned with the mark you made on the threads of the tie-rod. have the alignment checked or adjusted after you have installed tie-rod end. if in doubt you can go to any auto parts store and buy a haynes manual for your vehicle, they are based on a complete vehicle teardown. the cost is only about 20.00.

One wheel wont turn

Turn, I assume you mean turn right and left?

Yes, that arm is likely the tie rod. There is no pin that can be replaced, the unit needs to be replaced.

If it is the outside tie rod end, you have an easy job ahead of you. Cost about $30 or so. You'll need a front end alignment.

If it is an inside rod end, you should replace your rack. Cost around $100. You'll need a front end alignment.

Have fun!
