Have you checked the oil level in the engine on the dipstick? if so and the oil levels full, you may have a bad oil pump! do not drive or run engine until you have a mechanic to looh at it to determine it as a a bad oil pump. running the motor with a bad oil pump will damage your motor or even lock the motor up!hope this helps you and thank you for choosing fixya.com

1997 dodge intrepid the oil light stays on been on for months no bad engine noises and the level is ok

You need to replace the oil pressure sending sensor but I'd have the actual oil pressure checked to be sure the oil pressure is'nt low as that could cause severe damage. I assume your oil level is correct and the oil isn't "foamy" or "milky" looking on the dipstick.

The oil pressure light is still on? Replace the oil pressure sending unit. The Check engine light is on? Have it scanned for codes.

Oil Pressure light on. Do I need a New engine?

There is a updated oil pick up tube, call the dealer, and fix it ASAP. These engines are famous for timing chain and oil sludge issues.

2004 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 engine, and oil light keeps coming on.

Major issues with the 2.7L motor. design flaw causes oil to hang in the heads and "cook" creating sludge. Sludge builds until the passage to the timing chain is blocked starving the chain and causing near instant failure...this is a "rattling" or Roulette wheel sound. The 2.7L is an "interference" type engine. When the chain breaks or jumps, the cams stop in position thus leaving the valves wherever they may land. The pistons keep on moving though....and kiss whatever valves happen to be open. Bye Bye Motor. Using Synthetic oil EARLY and exclusively cures the sludge issue. Replacing the timing chain and components at interval is crucial...don't wait for it to break or jump!
