Usually a leak under the fan clutch means a bad water pump. although it could also be a leaking heater hose also. the only way to be sure is to go underneath in front and see for sure where it is. ther is a weep hole at bottom of the water pump, if it;s leaking ther, it's a bad water pump. hope this helps you, and thank you for choosing fix ya

We changed thermostat sensor and thermostat, still over heating. What could it be?

overheating has many symptoms, not just green on the ground
do tell?

temp gauge lies its buns off... use a real tool called a thermometer to see real temps. we use a IR pyro gun to see it and not GET burnt.

gauges is telling truth, so......................

a bad rad cap, or bad thermostat are common fails.
test one: (dead cold engine) never hot.
radiator tank filler cap off , you look down there, is the level really low?
(forget the silly side expansion tank for now)
if found low , then fill it and burp it. no air allowed there
running 50% antifreeze now? no?, that its WRONG.
the tool is $2, test it. (Prestone sells it)
the coolant is all rusty color, (ill not comment ) try service.

  1. Green on the ground,? for passengers feet.
  2. Water exploding from overfill side tank? ( oil in RAD or Milky engine oil) (same milk in transmission pan?)Exploding gases, on cold start is bad head gasket or warped head or cracked head/block, or just simple overheating, The Rad leak down test and the exhaust test (green/blue ) tests solve this riddle easy.
  3. Steam rising from hood or Radcap, or hose to Cap and recovery tank. Over heating or leaks.
  4. Dash gauge pegged. (or WILD GAUGE swings "air pockets below thermostat") or gauge bad. sender bad.
  5. Motor pinging and loss of power. (do not allow pinging, it will wreck the engine)
  6. Pistons landing on ground? (just joking....)
  7. A/C dies?, does it?, due to A/C engine overheat switch ,tripping off. a 235 ?F (spec) see FSM. A/C means Air conditioner clutch dead.
  8. Does the engine over heat , if left idling a long time (30min-1hr). or only at stop signs or red lights? (clutch fan not activating , check it, this way.)
  9. Does it only over heat while moving ? ( a bad pump, or Rad)
  10. Overheats, only on hills? (bad RAD)
  11. Only overheats pulling heavy loads ? (inside, full of bricks, or pulling a 1000 trailer ? ONLY?
  12. Never overheats moving fast on flat ground. (so the RAD fan is dead, no mater if stock or hacked in electric fan, it's DEAD)
  13. Do you have carbon or oil floating around in the Rad, filler CAP neck top tank ? yes?, that is bad head gasket or worse cracked block/head. Do the Exhaust test.
  14. Overheats under all conditions, Catastrophic overheat. ( can be bad pump (rotor gone) or RAD or system is packed up)
  15. Seems to overheat , even at first start , in 1min or less I have gases shooting into the overfill tank, that is a bad head gasket (mostly a warped head, at least)
  16. Antifreeze (and water) in the pans, Engine or Transmission.
  17. The RAD fan is DEAD ( just because a mechanical RAD fan coasts, don't mean it WORKS RIGHT.) See the clutch tests below. if electric fan , there is a test in the FSM covers this 100% the fan must come on over heated,.
  18. my electric fan , starts to run idling engine long time at 225F. It kicks on, some cars have 2 fan and staged, come on trip points.
  19. RTM read the manual the FSM>
  20. there is more im sure, cant think of them all now.

That pyro gun allows me to test any RAD easy , ask.
ok , i check all rad tube top and bottom and bingo find any tube clogged fast. if all are equally clogged.(partial) i cant find that.
that is caused by zero service, so...and there are signs for that too.

CLUTCH PROBLEM TOYOTA HIACE 2007

what does hard mean?
right (LHD cars USA) hand cant move lever to detents of the H pattern
or clutch is stiff (left foot)
or grinds,
does reverse grind, it loves to, does it?

can you drive and shift ok with drive wheels off ground?
yes, that means clutch drag, is bad. its dragging.
or as some say not releasing 100%
im no High ace expert but then again i can look under hood
so does it have a hydraulic actuated clutch?
if yes, is the fluid low, does it lose fluid
bingo bad MC and slave, get both changed.
if time on hands is free. which end is bad, can be discovered sometimes. if either leak they are bad. MC can leak on either side of the fire wall. look for it.
slaves fail first, and the leak is near impossible to tell (cept level loss)
it lands on road and you miss that fact.
tell more get more..

It is over heating . there are no leaks the type of clutch fan is thermal but i do not know if that is the correct one or not? it has a new thermostat, and new anti-freeze, water pump is the same when...

Physically look in the radiator under the cap for coolant level, and check the valve in the cap for sticking. If air is present in the radiator it can't get out, and more coolant can't get in,(from the overflow). Either clean the cap or replace it and check that it is the CORRECT cap.
Radiator fins dirty, clean with a strong stream of water, not high pressure water.
Radiator clogged, have it boiled out, or replace.
Thermostat stuck open or shut, replace it.
Water pump worn out, can no longer move enough coolant, replace it.
Fan shroud broken or missing....
Electric Fan(s) not working, Check the fan, relay, fuse and engine temperature sensor's.
Belt driven fan, belt slipping, fan clutch is bad, fan blades have flattened out.

Air dam under front bumper is gone, loose, or broken. It actually has a purpose other than scraping on the driveway or curbs. It forces air up into and thru the condenser and radiator. If it

Leaking cooliant from behind where the fan clutch ties in

GM water pumps are designed with a weep hole that will start leaking when the pump goes bad. The clutch fan is bolted directly to the water pump. If you look up from under the truck you should be able to see where the leak is at the bottom of the pump. It will have to be replaced in the very near future as the leak will get considerably worse quickly. It is a job that can be done at home. Hope this helps.

85 hilux 4x4 have no clutch when checking found fluid leaking from rubber boot at the arm pretruding from gear box how do you repair this? cheers roger

bad slave cylinder possible. may even be a bad clutch master cylinder.was leaking from firewall? not bad clutch mastercylinder. was leaking under car on passenger side at front of tranny, but in between motor and tranny where motor bolts to transmission? most likely, bad clutch slave cylinder. having to add brake fluid to clutch master cylinder? having to pump the clutch pedal up to shift gears? either you have a bad clutch slave cylinder[leaking under the car between motor and tranmission] or leaking on firewall [the wall that under dash and under the front window] you may even need a clutch replacement.3 if you need further assistment, repost your question to fixya.com

Temp gauge is in normal, 200 degree, range when starting. Within a few minutes of driving goes up to 250, right below orange line. No leaks found, coolant level appears fine. Any ideas?

250 DEGREES ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT.SOUND LIKE CLUTCH FAN FREEWHEEL.IF CLUTCH FAN DONT LOCK IN OR HAVE RESISTANCE TURNING BY HAND WHEN ENGINE HOT.FAN CLUTCH IS BAD.IF FAN CLUTCH OKAY COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT.I WOULD CHANGE THERMOSTAT FLUSH OUT ENGINE AND RADIATOR.IF ENGINE TEMPERATURE STILL READS 250 DEGREES OVER FLOW JUG OR RESERVOIR NOT BOILING OVER THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.

Have pink fluid leaking from under the dash.

Hi I am Vortash .. as a guess it may be brake or clutch hydraulic fluid or antifreeze so first look in the radiator expansion tank if the same fluid in there you have a leak in your heater radiator matrix .. if not check the fluid reservoir in the clutch and brake some fluids are a pinkish colour if that is the same then you have either a clutch or brake master cylinder leak hope this is of help .. Fan cluth or fan assembly

I have a 2004 trailblazer and it keeps over heating at stop lights or while driving slow. I have replaced the thermostat and water pump, but this issue still shows up. It is fine while driving down the highway at 55-65 mph. I have also cleaned the radiator and blew through the fins to clean out the dirt and bugs. Not sure if clutch is operating correctly. How can one tell if it is and are these electric? I know there are approx 5 wires running to the front of the clutch, but not sure if this gets a voltage signal to engage the clutch fan. Any ideas?
