Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE

1 Answer

Hi, I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand SE 4 Door. I recently ran out of gas with it yesterday and had to refill the tank with two gallons. After bringing the gas gage back to par, I figured the car would start back up. Unfortunately the security light came on, and is preventing the car from turning over. I believe if I can figure out how to turn that switch off I can start my vehicle. Please let me know what I can do. Thank you. -Shane S.

Turn the key to on position. (Do Not Start) Leave the key in the on postion for EXACTLY 10 minutes. As SOON as the 10 minutes is up and the light turns off, then IMMEDIATELY starte the car.

Replaced the fuel pump and filter on a 2001 pontiac grand am se. car wont start is there anything else or filter keeping the gas from going to the engine?

dont know if I can help but make sure the fuel pump comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition on if not check the relay under the hood you may need someone to help with this there are 4 terminals when you pull the relay out one will have power all the time with the key on another one will have power for a few seconds when you first turn the ignition on if you have power there and the fuel pump dosent run at all the relay may be bad you can also check the connection by the fuel tank for power when you turn the ignition on also I just put a fuel pump in my sons 2000 grand am and it did not start after I put the pump in but I could hear the pump running but we had only put a couple of gallons of gas in so I put another 3 gallons of gas in and it started I also just put a pump in my daughters 2001 grand am and it started right away but I had put 5 gallons of gas in right away You can also see if there is fuel pressure at the fuel rail on the right side or passenger side of the engine there is a connection to check fuel pressure you can take the cap off and use a screwdriver to push the valvestem in to see if there is fuel there and any pressure. if you have power to the fuel pump and plenty of gas and the pump wont run try hitting the bottom of the fuel tank under the fuel pump with a ribber hammer

When my pontiac 2001 gets below empty and runs completely out of gas,why is it hard to start when gas is put in it. it will not even turn over. it takes a couple of hours for it to start and thats after i...

you never want to run your car completely empty,, the sludge and floating **** sits usually at the bottom of the tank and will clog everything,, injectors, fuel filters, and even at times the gas pickup inside the tank itself. if It was mine, I would change the filter first of all, then,, (when this happens) just turn the key to the on position, listen for a slight clicking noise,, that would be your fuel pump trying to bring gas to the right place. it takes time since it has to fill the lines and as you see recycles the air out of the line. turn the key off and do it again,, once the sound is gone, try starting it,,

Ran car out of gas. put 5 gallons in. no start still.

Hold the gas pedal down all the way and try it every a few times but do not let up off the gas. It could be flooded.

I just ran out of gas. I put 5 gallons in it and it won't start. Why?

running fuel injected cars out of fuel bring premature death to the fuel pumps because of they locations ,in the fuel tank the fuel actualy keeps the electric fuel pump cool if the tank is ran below 1/4 tank to many times it damage the pump by overheating it .make sure your fuel pressurer is good at least 60 psi min for some ,

The car ran out of gas and I had to put 5 gallons in it to get it start yesterday then today it has between emety and and quarter tank and would not fire... I can hear the pump run and so I put 3 more...

WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF GAS IT WILL CAUSE FUEL PUMP DAMAGE CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI. IF NOT REPLACE FUEL FILTER.IF FUEL PRESSURE STILL LOW OR 0 . FUEL PUMP BAD.

How many miles per gallon does my pontiac get?

Fill the gas tank till the filler nozzle clicks

Zero the trip meter

Drive the car for say 100 miles

Fill up the tank again until the nozzle goes click again

Take a note of the number of gallons you put in divide that number into 100

So 5 gallons divided into 100 will tell you that the car is doing 20 mpg

if you have added 4 Gallons and 3 pints then divide the 100 by 4.40 which gives you 22.73mpg

2001 PONTIAC GRAND AM SE, WON'T CRANK,RAN MY GAS LOW

Sounds like air in fuel line. Purge fuel line. By "crank", do you mean engine spins but won't catch? Try starter fluid in intake.

Car wont start after running out of gas

Try a new fuel filter. you most likely sucked up some junk or maybe water from the tank when it ran out. Check fuel pump make sure it runs.
