Question about Toyota Camry

1 Answer

I have replaced the alternator in my camry 2000, after the replacement we tested it. We turned the AC and Radio on and everything was working well plus we disconected the negative from battery to see if the alternator was charching and everything went well, but after I drove the car a few blocks the battery light still comes on. Any ideas about it?

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

The advice that I have to give you is to replace the new alternator. Sorry.

When you removed the negative wire from the battery, you inadvertantly caused an electrical problem in the alternator, which damaged one of the internal components.

The cables should never be removed from the battery with the engine running.

We are sorry that we do not have a better solution, but, in this case, the removal of the cable caused your problem. Perhaps you can return the alternator and get a replacement at no charge.

I have a 99 solara se. I have new battery and alternator but the car can't carry a load. Ac lights heater radio so forth

Not sure I follow your problem.
The alternator puts out 13-14 volts at idle but very few amps. If you turn on the headlights at idle the voltage may drop to 12 until you raise engine speed. The amperage goes up with engine speed.
Is the battery voltage at least 14 when the engine speed is 1500RPM or more ?

The car lost its gauges, power windows, rear brake lights and would not shift out of park. When they checked the alternator they said it was bad but the battery was good. Replaced the alternator,...

Check to make absolutely sure that the alternator is working, namely, turn on the lights, bright ones, turn on the radio, turn on the heater at full blast, etc, anything that draws power. If the engine badly bogs, or if it suddenly dies, you still have an alternator issue. Alternatively, might take it and have it tested.

2000 volvo won't start clicking sound when key is tuned off and doors and windows won't open open

start by checking voltage at the battery. if it's below 12 with the engine off, replace it. once you've got the engine running between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm, check for voltage at the battery with all your accessories on, rear defrost, headlights, highbeams, hazards, radio, ac, everything. if it drops below 12.5, replace the alternator. BUT if you test fr voltage at the battery with the car turned off, and there's sufficient voltage, you've got an alarm issue. for which you should contact your local dealership

as far as the wipers go, it sounds like it's just a loose nut that holds each wiper arm on.
the AC problem sounds like a poor alternator and battery. you should replace your battery, then test the alternator. keep the engine running between 1000 and 2000 rpm and turn on every accessory in the car. radio, headlights, high beams, hazards, ac on high, rear defroster, everything. and read the voltage at the battery. if it dips below about 12.5v dc, replace the alternator. and if you've got an aftermarket stereo with an amp and subs, get a deep cycle battery and try to find an alternator with a higher output.

It 's the unit. bring it to a repair facility( fairly easy to remove) and have them do the repair . Its a lot cheaper than buying a new unit. If you decide to do this let me know and I'll tell you how to remove and install the unit.

Battery dying

No the alternator won't keep it running on a Toyota, the system is wired much different than most cars, found this out the hard way on same type of car. Test the alternator, raise the idle up to 1500 RPM turn on everything in the car, lites on high beam, ac blower on high, everything, voltage at battery should not be less than about 13.5 volts and not more than 14.7 volts, (clean battery cables first) if all that checks out you have a draw in the system, most common source is the glove box lite or trunk lite, on rare occasions a bad isolation diode in the alternator can cause a voltage draw, another test is to pull off the positive battery battery cable at night and lightly touch it to the battery post, if you see any faint spark there is a draw somewhere in the system, these types of issues can be heck to find, but not always, check what I said to. And last but not least clean the battery cables thoroughly, get a battery brush tool from parts store they are cheap, neutralize any acid with a solution of baking soda and warm tap water.
