The heat continues to blow in my 1998 oldsmobile bravada when in the off position

If the fan keeps blowing when switched off,the relay points are likely fused shut.Pull out the fan relay and see if the blower motor quits.

My car overheated and now it starts but dies after rpms drop below one thousand I have to keep my foot on the pedal to keep it running and it idles rough any suggestions?

Sounds like the head gasket may have blown or other internal damage has occurred. This is causing a compression issue between cylinders or lack of compression.

I would ask if there are any engine codes associated with this malfunction, in case there is a sensor that got damaged when the engine overheated.

Fuel is shut off

This activity is controlled by the Electronics in the ECU, If there are no coolant leaks, the coolant is filled, engine oil level is OK, then a normal restart should be in order.

Throw a rod

This is caused by a lack of oil to the rod bearing. Financially it will be cheaper to get a used engine and replace it as a whole. but if you desire, remove engine, turn upside down, remove oil pan, remove piston rod and bearing cap assy, inspect bearing, will be blue or locked and frozen/welded to the crank due to lack of lubrication. Keep me posted.

New spark plugs gone out

If the odor is not heavy gasoline, then they appear to be oil fouled. The cheap fix is to buy at any auto parts store oil burning plugs or sleeves, these will keep the spark plugs slightly further out of the cylinder, out of the oils way, and should provide a reasonable resolution.

Check the PCV valve and hose, if they clog they will cause oil to enter engien cylinders. keep me posted

Do you have a 4WD Bravada? Or an AWD? If it is AWD, there is no shifting. It is in 4WD Drive all the time.

Do you have something on the dash that allows you to change from 2WD to 4WD HI/Lo? Is so, then check your fuses in the fuse box. You may just have a blown fuse.
