I was told by the garage that they can not locate the transmission for my 2001 Mercury Cougar I looked online and also can not find the part number they gave me. 1S8R70002SEB I found several close to the part number and called the garage they said the part number they gave me was correct. Was there something special about the 2001 mercury cougar, was it manufactured in the US or I was told it may be a european part? I believe they also made a car in europe called the PUMA that is the cougar version over there. I really need some help locating this part. Any GOOD ideas?

Thanks, it sounds a little starnge to me that I can not locate one. I ask the garage twice for the part number. I will call a Ford dealership and see what the deal is, one man told me they only made very few manual models most are automatic transmissions...I just hope I can get this straightened out. Thanks for your assistance

There are 3 different transmission codes that I have found, 1S8R-DA, 1S8R-DB, and 1S8R-DC. I would check with car-part.com, they should be able to direct you to a salvage yard in your area that should have a transmission. I would verify the number the shop is giving you. I would take a look at it myself. You may want to contact a Mercury Dealership for assistance.

I'm not sure if the part # is the same, but I would check Ebay.com for parts for your car if you're having trouble finding it at a local yard.

Check with a transmission specialist if you're not having luck finding a regular garage to rebuild your transmission. Your car is only 9 years old. I had a transmission rebuilt by a transmission rebuild shop for my 1990 Cadillac which is 20 years old.

find a good transmission garage, but before that check atf level, cable going to shifter etc, if no fault found prepare for the worse $$$$, sorry man your not the only one mine gave at 70000miles, id rather have it fixed by a good tranny shop than buy a used or new tranny. it will be replaced with modefied parts, makers study this problems and modify the parts make them better. compare price of repair and having a new one, remember you still have to pay labor replacing your tranny, tranny shops usually give 5 years warranty. remanufactured tranny i would suggest but first compare price with new.

Tried to get on the freeway in my 2002 lincoln ls gave the car more gas to speed up and transmission did not responed. pulled over and now the car won't move. when I put it in drive I can feel it

check your transmission fluid level. It is better not to force it just load it to a recovery service track and take it to a qualified garage where they will check the pressure and serviceability of your automatic gear box. Looks like you have a problem with the gear box, is slipping on acceleration.

My car just losing power its a automatic goes from 4th gear to 1st rev away up can any one let me know whats wrong its a daihatsu yrv turbo

Hi,
That looks like a burnt out clutches.
Check the fluid in our transmission, if it is in minimum level, add up to the max if needed, smell the fluid if it smell like burned oil that means clutches gave away and needed replacement.
You have to bring your car to the nearest garage to assess the damage to your transmission and ask them how much your gonna spend for the repair.
You have a choice for a rebuilt, came from junkyard, and do a total repair/overhaul for your transmission. Whichever that makes you save some money.

Hope that helps!

Leaving a parked spot I noticed some red fluid under the middle front of the car. Someone it was transmission fluid. Also noticed that there was dried fluid same position in the garage where I park the car....

The red fluid is probably transmission fluid. Pick some up on your finger smell it and if possible compare it to known transmission fluid. You invariably have a leak. If you want to find the leak try this.

Locate a large piece of cardboard and place this under your cars engine compartment just after you garage it tonight. The cardboard will tell all on the leak location.

As far as adding trans fluid . . . you only need to ad fluid if it is low. The transmission is often refered to as a transaxle. Also transmission fluid is most commonly added via the transmission fluid dip stick hole via funnel. Be Careful not to over fill the transmission.

Good Luck

I have volvo s80 it shows me transmission serves urgant

If you are not very mechanical i would recommend you take your car to a garage and ask them to change your transmission oil and filter, the sooner the better.
or get the filter and the grade of oil you need, drain the transmission fluid, either by undoing the transmission sump bolt located under the car engine, located on opposing side to the oil sump, or removing the sump(replace filter). replace and reseal the sump/bolt. refill car from through the transmission dipstick, located near the engine under the bonnet.

Car hesitates when it shifts gears. This is particularly noticable in stop and go city driving.

r u the original owner of the car? do u know if the transmission was serviced as per the maitenance schedule? hopefully u only need to change the transmission filter and fluid (costs about $60 plus labor). i've heard of tcm's needing replacement too, but try the cheap route first. have u had the computer checked? u can often find a garage that will check for trouble codes for a fee, but include the fee as payment if u get your car fixed there. hope this helps.

My 1998 cadillac concours just gave me the code 730

This code means there has been excessive slip in the transmission, possibly due to lack of fluid.

Check the fluid level by warming up the car then check the dipstick with the engine still running.

Or....you may have a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located on the output shaft transmission casing.

Transmission issues after transmission flush

Well first off, coolant in the transmission will cause transmission failure if left in long enough. Proving why the radiator failed will be another story.

Unfortunately, once installed, I don't know of any store that would take it back, unless they gave you the wrong part. It would also involve paying the garage to remove the cv joint , and replace the old one, which would cost more money.
How was the car before you brought it to the garage? If you were able to drive it to the garage, I don't understand why it's not driveable now. How much did the cv joint cost (just the part, not the labor)?
