Question about 2001 Volkswagen Beetle

2 Answers

Have a 2001 VW Beetle, dies for no reason. If you turn key off it will crank. Have replaced massive air flow meter, oxygen sensor, vaccuum pump and most all hoses and vaccuum valve. It will die going 55 down road or at a stop light.

Sounds like Rpm Sensor G-28. if no signal is received from the rpm sensor the engine will die. won't start until it gets a signal. test the sensor but also the wiring from the sensor.

This sounds like an electronic ignition module. I have had this problem with cars going back to the 1970's I've seen them go intermittent. But I know very little about these VW's. I 'm a new owner of one and just checking out the forums.

HAve you checked the crank sensor? the crank sensor is what times the motor and sends the spark signal from the ECU to the coil packs. typically these will act up a little before they all out quit, but in your case this could be a case where it gives with out warning.

2005 VW Beetle. Engne light on and EPC light comes on with significantly reduced power.

Sounds like all those sensors are going to need replaced. Basically, they are all in charge of metering the air and fuel to the engine, so if they are malfunctioning, the car isn't going to run correctly.

Check TDC (Top Dead Centre) sensor - ie. crank sensor. Possibly faulty and needs replacement. Could also be a worn out timing belt.

2001 vw beetle tdi(deisel) cranks but won't start

It could either be the engine speed sensor or the fuel injection pump. When this happened to me, ofcourse I was in the middle of nowhere. The fuel injection pump needed replacing. To do this they had to also time it... I let vw do this one reluctantly.

1998 vw beetle codes p0411 and p1128

P0411 Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected
The 4mm inside diameter vaccuum hose gets pinched between the lower intake manifold and the secondary air pump housing, flattening it over time.
Here's a link to the steps to fix yourself if you are mechanically inclined...

P1128 Long Term Fuel Trim Is Too Lean
It is very likely this code is coming up because of the vacuum hose as well.

FIRING ORDER & CAR QUITS WHEN YOU PLUG IN MASSIVE AIR FLOW SENSOR

Hello,

You really need to start with basic troubleshooting. Is there spark to the spark plugs? Do you hear the fuel pump prime during initial Key On & during Engine Cranking?

Why did you change the MAF (mass airflow sensor)?
