Question about 1997 Toyota Camry

2 Answers

1997 Toyota Camry dashboard lights almost completely out, dimmer/rheostat does not help anymore. Took to service station they checked fuses and said fuses where okay and I need to bring car back and leave for a day for them to locate problem. All other lights seem to be fine.

The dashboard lights seem to have been dimming for a while and then they completely went out from the right to left side - facing the dashboard sitting in the drivers seat. Just a very dim light on the left now. I did try the rheostat and that worked at first - a little, and then the lights got dimmer and dimmer and the just about completely out.

Yes. The solution was helpful. I had the 10AMP Gauge checked and it is okay. Next will be the dash bulbs. I was told it is a big job because the dash panel needs to come off and it will cost about $80.00. I checked the panel lights last night and the only side that is illuminated is the far left facing the dash all others are out. I did have a automatic ignition start installed and don't know if that could have contributed to the dash panel dimming light problem. I also replied earlier.

The lights for the radio, heat, a/c, are all good. Check last night and facing the dash - all lights are out except for the far left. Had a auto ignition start installed a while ago and don't know if that could have started the problem. Had 10 AMP Gauge in fuse box checked and that is okay. Was told to check the bulbs will cost about $80.00 - dash panel needs to come off.

Check that the lights rheostat switch is not turned fully counter clockwise this will dim the dash lights. Look in the fuse box at a 15Amp fuse marked "Gauge" (if I don't mistake) it may be blown, after that you need to look for power at the light rheostat.

Dash bulbs will occasionally act this way when they are going out. If the filament in the bulb is broken, it will occasionally make contact and work. If it is just one bulb acting this way, that may be the problem, if more than one bulb is turning off, then you have a different problem.

If multiple bulbs start or stop working at the same time, it may be a switch or a wiring problem. If they randomly start or stop working independently of each other, it is likely the bulbs. From what you describe, I would check out the bulbs first.

Keep us updated.

The unqique way that the automatic ignition start installed wrong other components, is any bad installation or any short; check wires installation to discart this problem.

I would say that the rehi stat in the switch is the problem. Are all of the dash lights dim? The radio included? If so then it is going to be the rehi stat.

2008 camry dashboard lights don't work when headlights are on

I know sounds simple but look to the left of the steering column for a rotary swith that goes up and down. This is the dimmer switch that can completely turn down or off what lights are on your display. Forgive me if this is not the case.

Gauges on dashboard quit working

I would suggest you remove the dash light dimmer control rheostat (In most cases part of the main headlight switch) and test it for continuity, I think it may be defective, please perform the testing before replacing any parts.

The dashboard lights are out. No speedometer, no odometer, no gas gauge. I checked the fuses and they are all good. is this a computer problem?

Before you do anything else, make sure that the dashboard light dimmer rheostat is turned up full. This can bet bumped, and it will shut the lights off. If you have any other questions, please feel free to get back to me.

Dash Lights dont come on 89 camry

I would be looking at the dimmer switch for the dash illumination level. You may have a bad connection on the back of the switch, or the rheostat may have a dead spot.

2003 Kia Optima - Dashboard Lights not working.

if you have aftermarket lights hooked up to the dash light it has been known to smoke the rheostat that controls the dimmer. I would also check the other fuses, sometimes the cluster refers to the guages themselves and not the lights that illuminate them
