Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

My 2001 cavalier is acting up she starts fine, but the motor wont shift gears until it is in higher rpm i mean like 4000 to red line, then once the car shifts gears she speeds up by herself... seems to be a little bit dangerous. the TC light came on i replaced the TPS, the light went off, but no difference. I reset the ECU, it helped the idle a little bit but the car still doesn't change gears well. Like their seems to be lots of power and torque left, it doesn't seem to be a transmission problem but some sort of electrical problem. Now this morning i started the car up and their was a burning smell of plastic or rubber in the car itself not outside and the gas indicator gauge now lies. the car has a quater tank and at different times it was reading absolutly empty or overfill. Now to me this seems like some sort of sensor problem or wiring or some kind of computer problem but i'm not sure any ideas?

scanner came up faultly O2 sensor (downstream)., but when it rains it pours, the car is having trouble starting now. the starter makes a loud crunching noise and won't start.

ok so i just spent like two hours just trying to change the O2 sensor, i got it finally, was a long process, but i guess when something is basically rust welded.... i replaced the startor on the god forsaken cavalier as well. She starts now, but no change she still does what i first explained.... is their an end to this throwing of parts? any suggestions? thanks

You are going to need a scanner to read all the trouble codes, when you do that,we can start looking.

Mitsubishi Eclipse, 5 speed man. trans - Won't shift after driving 20 minutes...

indicates a problem in the spigot bush in the crank shaft
it is dry and when it heats up , it is seizing on the input shaft(clutch shaft) of the transmission
up shifting is fairly easy as the hear synchro's do the job along with correct engine rpm
down shift overloads the synchro action unless you increase the rpm to match the ration to road speed

1989 pathfinder transmission 3spd w/ overdrive works great when first started, then downshifting starts way early, started after alternater wentbad

Do you mean upshifting starts way early? Going from 2nd to 3rd in other words?
Ireally don't know your transmission, but the alternator problem might've possibly spiked and hurt your shifting solenoids in the ******. don-ohio (:^)

I have a 2003 mustang cobra with the 4v dohc v8 supercharged. It idles perfectly. when i rev up the engine it sounds great, but when i take off and get into second and third gear it wont go past 4000...

Check the prongs on the #1 coil to see if it is crackd if it is left alone it will eventually turn to a multiple misfire, also take the coil off to make sure nothing is shorting out.

Hi mt mk3 golf gti 2.0 liter 8 valve seems to be hitting a limiter of some sort at 5000rpm it should rev to over 6000rpm why is this,? thanks

what aload of rubbish its not going over 5000rpm because the dizzie timings out and you need to get your crank or tdc timing then check all timing marks line up through top of gear box once its all lined up then you can set your distributor timing this is definately the problem so i hope you sort it ive red lined my golf for 2 years on nearly every journey at some point and the engine runs sweet as a nut but it does drink alot of fuel lol

Shifting gears

I'll assume you mean 6000 rpm's. No that is not normal. Should shift smoothly anytime after 2700 rpm's.

Transmission on my 2001 L200 has been acting up...

I think you should try changing the fuel filter by the sound of things. If your engine is starving for gas it can cause the transmission to do all sorts of things. If, once your car is running well, you still have transmission problems, you can try changing the transmission oil and filter, and the shift speed sensor.

In neutral car is not going more then 4000 rpm

The 300M is equiped with a rev-limiter. The technology is designed to protect the engine. It keeps you from blowing it up when it has no load on it...If it is driving and shifting ok, and you have no check engine light on...there is nothing wrong.
Why would want to rev the engine past 4000 rpm in neutral anyway? Max torque comes in around 3950 RPM...
If you keep reving it up in neutral you might throw the computer in to LIMP mode, then you wont go no where.
Hope this answers your question...
