The best thing to do for this is get a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys. When the engine light came on it recorded a defect and you have between 25 and 35 Startups before it loses the Code.
There are many things which can cause your problem. It can be a fuel supply problem or any of the Engine management parts.

An onsite mechanic would reach for his scanner to read the onboard computer before changing parts. Some of the vehicles with Traction control will exhibit this behavior when a speed sensor acts up.

Acts like it isn't getting fuel, chokes out

Do you have an engine light? Throwing a code?
Just does this at idle or when driving/acceleration?
Acting strange changing symptoms (E.G.--idle to acceleration to black smoke out exhaust, etc.)? Plenty of Gas in tank?

I am thinking: No engine light
Clog in fuel filter
intermittent fuel pump problem
A vehicle starting sensor (E.G.--Throttle Position Sensor (TPS))
Main computer
Engine Light: Pull Code

I hope this helps.

Choke light won't go off in my 1985 El Co

What happens if you unplug the choke ? And the oil pressure switch?
On some models the oil pressure switch activates a relay for the choke heater. On other models the choke light acts as a check engine light for the very basic engine computer.

The choke light is connected to the choke and the oil pressure switch.
The choke coil is heated electrically and from the engine heat to make it open.
The heater could be faulty and the choke is not opening fast enough.
It may have had a Rochester Quadrajet when new.

Have you had the engine control computer tested for fault codes? If not do so. I think you may find a code for the CKP sensor in memory, it is commion for the CKP (crankshaft position) sensor to fail on these 90's models. The symptoms you have fit the sensor to a "T"

You have a bad idle air / idle sensor. Your car believes that you are in idle at all times so when you come to a stop the engine floods. When the fuel evaporates you can drive again. Drove me crazy when it happened to me.

Engine quit when stopped at stop light. Acted as if it was choking then died. Tried restarting. Turns over strong, no start. Thought maybe no gas. Added gas after about 30 minutes. Started first try....

Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Replace the filter first, as it's only $10. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the pump, which is $250.
