Intermittent power steering failure and warning light appears on dashboard. steering is heavy and then is ok

What year , make , model vehicle ? Warning light , electric power steering ? And what would you like to know Allison ? How to fix or what to do ? If your vehicle is a GM product , Chevy , Pontiac , Buick etc... there was a recall on a problem they had . Your best bet is to take it to a dealer .

I am driving a toyota runx 2004 model it shows P/S sign on dashboard what does it mean?

It is telling you there is something wrong with the power steering system. It cuts the stereo to draw your attention to the warning light.
Check the level of the power steering fluid is correct.

I have a warning light on the dashboard looks like a tap/ pump, what is it?

Hi there,

If it's this one:

wolfman304_66.gif
...then it is your OIL PRESSURE WARNING light.

This means your engine is either low on oil, has the wrong oil viscosity in it, or the pressure sensor is faulty.

Cheers,

Why does the car drag when changing gears? the various lights on the dashboard are blinking and it shows EPS

EPS indicates Electronic power steering warning light.---------The power steering needs to be inspected. The power steering pump, the power steering fluid, the power steering hose ,power steering belt and pulley. Get your car scanned by the dealer or at local car garage. That will be much helpful. As you will receive codes, as per codes you can replace the part or get the part checked.A fault in the wiring loop causes it to short on the steering column. This problem is very much noticed in Hyundai cars.-------

This will solve the problem or point you towards the cause of problem. Thank you for using fixya.

There is a loud "whining"

Power steering pumps whine when they are low on fluid, or if they are goin bad. Serpentine belts also whine in cold weather or when they are goin bad. Tru spraying just a little WD40 on the belts when its running, if it goes away, you should be thinking about a new belt. If nothing changes, check the power steering fluid, if its full, take to a mechanic

Steering hard /loosing pwer at 40-55mph

Take the car in for a new serpentine belt and tensioner right away before you destroy the engine. The alternator, power steering pump and waterpump are not turning right now because the belt has come off. The battery will die soon because it is not charging, and the engine will overheat and perform it's own little rendition of the china syndrome. When the red warning lights in the dash come on, it generally means; park it unless you're being shot at.
