Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1991 Honda Accord LX

I replaced my battery and every since then, my Accord is Stuck in "S" mode and the button on the shift column(automatic) makes no difference. So when I start from a dead stop it takes a 20-30 seconds to get rolling because I'm like in 3rd gear???? Everything else works great, and the car gets great mileage overall, but is there some sort of reset, or something that was affected when the battery was replaced. Help!

I have the same problem except that my car did fine when I left work, drove 12 miles home, parked, then I had to go somewhere, car started out fine, got to red light, had to stop, when I started back up, it was like my brakes were on. Transmission would not change out of 3rd and the "S" light came on steady. Like the other guy, if you try to start out in D4, it pulls hard (not slipping). if I pull stick down to Low and shift it out, it does good but still does not shift into D4.

Could be you dorked your transmission controller when you replaced the battery. Hope not. Did you hook it up backwards or something by mistake, even for a second?

You have an internal transmission failure, have a transmission repair shop look at this and be prepared to have it removed for repair and rebuilding.

I have a 91 honda accord lx with 4 speed automatic with the sport shift mode. The indicator light on the dash flashes sometimes and when I put the car into gear like D4 or D3 it takes a lot of RPM to get...

Larry, you really need to take it to a trasnsmission shop and find out what the trouble codes are, but it seems as though you have a burned up transmission. Thanks and good luck with your repair.

My 91 accord had the same problem. There is an electric lock out solenoid under the shift console cover. Remove a couple screws on shifter cover and you will see it. I just bent the tab that contacts the shifter instead of replacing it. Done deal.

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
