  1. unhook battery
  2. take belt off - has a tensioner pull up on to release belt
  3. unhook wires from altenator-mark the wires so remember where they go
  4. take out bolt's that hold altenator on
  5. remove altenator -replace in reverse order

You don't have to pull it to replace the TCC. Remove the pan and you can access the TCC solenoid. 40b12bb6-08f8-4f1c-b959-9bfe6f7b08fb.gif

96 monte carlo idle fluctuates when standing still. Also lights go dim when idle drops. changed both O2 sensors, battery, tensioner belt, and altenator. Mechanic thinks its the choke sensor but knows...

Hello and welcome. sounds like the throttle body may be just dirty. remove hose from air cleaner to the throttle body. clean out the throttle body bore and around the throttle body with some throttle body cleaner. then retest and see if the problem is repaired

I have a 1995 monte carlo has no compression the cams are turning, does this sound like a head gasket

If you have a V engine (6 or 8) I would be surprised if both heads have blown head gaskets-even if you did chances are you would still have compression in some cylinders as usually only cylinders next to each other (not all on one bank) are low and not at zero regardless. Sounds more like your engine has jumped time so that the piston is coming up while a valve is open-you will need to remove the front of the engine Timing cover) to verify, and depending on what engine you have you probably only have to install a new chain and possibly gears if they are damaged-most Chevy engines are non-interference engines so you should not have to remove heads to repair it.

Replace the thermostat. After that, if problem persists, feel the radiator with engine at normal operating temp. If part of it feels cool, this would indicate a restricted radiator, Very common.Also purchase a block tester, available at napa or other reputable parts store for about thirty dollars. Follow directions, cheapest way to find head gasket breech into cooling system. Good luck!

Intake manifold sounds like needs removed and replaced.. sounds like it has blown a gasket at rear .. try a mirror first and see if you can see exactly where it is coming from before taking it appart.. this sometimes helps so you can see back there.. thanks jerry

it has a timing chain . if you have a double over head cam you have a timing belt.... either one can be done with engine in car... you remove passenger tire and the plastic cover inside wheel well ..then you can get to the bolts

its not that hard to replace the pump on this car hads long the fuel line are not rusted .to replace you may pay from $85.00 to $ 115.00
