you have a bad power stering pump you might try taking fluid out using turkey baster trning wheel all the way to right or left and add little at a time while rotating it rt & lf till it squeels each direction allowing fluid to fill the rack & pinon if you have a rack & pinion cylinder on this auto if it ran dry and it's not purged ti will act like what you are discibing add a little start turn lf& rt few times turn off do agian til you top it off. good luck ckeck youtube video.

Excessive power steering fluid usage

The power steering is a sealed system, if you are using fluid then you have a leak in the system somewhere. It could be the seals in the pump, a hose, a loose fitting or the rack and pinion is leaking. Have someone turn the steering wheel full left & full right while you inspect for should be able to locate it. If it is the seals in the rack and pinion, it will be under the car. It's mounted directly in front of the cross-member. You can purchase a rebuilt R & P for less than $200 with your old core as trade in. Good luck, i hope this helps.

There is power steering fluid dripping from the passenger side boot covering the rod that connects to the wheel. Could a simple replacement of the boot be the fix, or is there a problem with the main unit...

No, the boot only keeps dust out of the inner tie rod joint--it is not intended to hold back fluid. The rack will have to be rebuilt with new seals. Sorry. :o(

if you have a leak from the back of the rack your sector shaft seal is defective. to replace it you need to remove the rack and do it on the bench.remove the locking nut and pull the seal from inside.if you are a rooky replace the rack with a rebuild one. good luck.

My power steering fluid is leaking. The cars first owner told me that he used to put some leak stop and it worked for 1 month. But I want to fix this problem for good. Help me out please.

There can be many causes for a power steering leak, from loose hose clamps to failed seals inside the steering rack. The whole area needs to be cleaned down thoroughly and the leak source found and whatever the required repair is carried out from there. A power steering specialist is probably your best bet for speed and cost of repair, but you are best to get a few estimates around town and choose the shop that appeared the most helpful and friendly, not necessarily the cheapest.

Hope this helps,

Power steering gear box leaking at steering column to gear box

I just found 1 of my power steering leaks in my 1990 toy pickup. My high pressure line has a hole in it. I used a florecent die kit to locate the leak. You can get it at Autozone.

Power Steering Fluid Leak, boiling fluid.

Look at the steering rack on the side of the car that you think the leak is, look for the steering rack boot or gaiter, it looks like a black circular accordian type thing.
If this is bulging and leaking fluid the seal in the end of the rack is gone, this is one of the most common faults of leaking fluid and at the rate you are losing fluid, the leak is on the pressurised side of the system after the pump (the seal at the end of the rack)
