Question about 2005 Honda Civic

2 Answers

Had my 2005 Honda Civic in for oil change and 25 point maintenace inspection at the dealer back in Sept 2010 because "maintenance light" on. It is now Nov 10 and "maintenace light" is back on. Is this a concern or can I wait till Dec when I bring it back in for oil change. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

If you've been busy and have driven 5,000mi since sept. it's probably due for another honda recommended service, I don't know how many miles are on it now but it's most likely an oil change.
If you have not gone that far, give the service dept. a call or stop by and ask them why they're in
such a hurry to get you back. But to be on the safe side check all your fluid levels. Hope this helps.

Again, read tody's comment about the dealer wanting you to rush back
Please avoid them and make a wise comsumer choice. Build a relationship
with a local repair shop. Dealers have nothing to offer, the local shops don't

I would never go to a dealer for anything, you just throw away money

I would go down the street to a local repair shop, and have it checked out, for a possible system failure or the reason you have the maint light on

I also never go more than 24 hours, ever, when I have any check lights on,without starting to diagnose the issues, then continue on until I resolve them. Sometimes that takes weeks to find and solve

    Hello again
After reading your response, I'm gonna guess you did not drive 5,000mi since september.
In my last response to your question I did not mean to avoid the dealer, fact is they should be
your 1st stop, as they reset the maint. light last. they will most likely send a mechanic or a
service writer out to reset it again and give it the once over, maybe do a quick OBDII scan to
see if any diagnostic codes popped. As far as dealer only service is concerned, unless you're
bound by warrenty terms get to know the guy/gal down the street. Check with your neighbors
see if they have a good reputation, maybe get an oil change there. It's always good to have a
    plan B.

I have a 2005 honda civic and the maintenance light came on, is that an oil change indicator ?

No, it's not for the oil change. Get a automotive electrician to connect to the car's computer to see what error it will return to know what needs a fix.

NEEDS MAINTENANCE light on at 46,666 miles

The light comes on at fairly short intervals ... even to let you know that you need an oil change. The mileage at which it comes on will depend on when it was reset last time. Here's a link to Yahoo Answers to turn the light off yourself.

Wondering how to reset maintenance light on a 2005 Honda Accord

Look in the owner's manual. It has it in there how to reset it. Usually it just has to do with selecting the oil quantity select and holding it down....or cycling the ignition a few times. Check your manual though....it will have it in there.

Reset maintenance light

If I remember correctly, on the dash you have a select button. Hold the button down then turn the key on, until the maintenance light blinks and goes out. Turn the key off then back on and your light should be out.
