There has to be clogg somewhere i would chech the entire intake system its costly some people have the ball to do it look it up on you tube

    I'd run a compression test on all cylinders. It is possible that you have a bad valve on that cylinder.

Misfiring.


need do a tune up change spark plugs and wires.clean fuel injectors and change fuel filter.if engine equiped with distributor replace distributor cap and rotor.if vechicle still misses.could have bad ignition coil or cylinders have low compression.

P305 code we have changed the spark plugs and wires we have replaced the fuel filter and had diagnostics done on the car and the mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the cyclinders


This is what all should be checked:
P0305 indicates the PCM has detected misfires on cylinder number five.
Here are six common problems that may cause OBD trouble code P0305:
  1. Fouled, cracked, worn or otherwise misfiring spark plug (Replaced)
  2. Bad ignition wire - burnt, cracked, carbon tracked wire or plug boot (Replaced)
  3. Defective ignition components - ignition module, ignition coil, distributor cap, etc..
  4. Vacuum leaks
  5. Clogged or otherwise defective fuel injector
  6. Internal mechanical engine fault, ie., low cylinder compression, bad valve, collapsed lifter, etc..
The aforementioned list covers the most common causes of P0305 in the order we feel is most likely to occur based on our past experiences. Certainly, each situation is different and there are other possible causes for cylinder misfires. Here are other causes we've seen (in no particular order).
  • Low fuel pressure
  • Leaking fuel pressure regulator
  • Poor fuel quality - water in gas tank
  • Uneven EGR flow caused by carbon build-up on engine with multiple EGR ports
  • loose or corroded fuel injector wiring
There seems to be a few things that have yet to be checked by your mechanic.
I know it is frustrating when the OBDII codes don't point you directly to the problem. To be hones this is something that I can not solve from here. However I hope that with the above information you can get your misfire detected code to go away after the real problem is discovered.

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected, the 304 is for cylinder number 4 any of these could be wrong If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors. Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open

PO300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (POS) signal to vary, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

Causes:
- Improper spark plug
- Insufficient compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted
- Fuel injectors may be faulty
- Intake air leak
- The ignition signal circuit is open or shorted

Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replace Spark Plugs
- Replace Injectors
- Replace Ignition Coils

Hi, multiple cylinder misfire, is when the engine cylinders do not fire in the correct order, and do not do it constantly. There is no particular pattern to it. My experience with this condition is that it is usually caused by a faulty ignition coil that is beginning to burn out. It could also be bad wires pluds rotor or cap

Causes Include.
  • Faulty spark plugs or wires
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
  • Faulty camshaft position sensor
  • Defective computer

Possible Solution:

Took my car to have check engine light checked. It said misfire cylinder 2. I replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs and it still says misfire cylinder 2. What is the next step? Thanks Steve


In modern cars so much can go wrong to indicate an issue and a computer in the car can get confused as to what is really occurring. In most cars a misfire indicates either an incorrect firing order, shorted wires, bad plugs, or bad coil. Since you have replaced the wires and plugs we can rule those out. Im also assuming after the second engine code you pulled #2 plug and made sure it wasnt fouled with oil, was gapped correctly, and reinserted. To produce a sufficient spark for combustion the alternator sends power to a "Coil" which is in reality a storage point that then sends an amplified electrical current down the spark plug wire to the cylinder to fire the plug. If the car is truly misfiring you will notice a rough idle, fluctuating RPM's, and lack of acceleration. If you are experiencing any of these I would look at replacing the coil. If you arent experiencing any of these I would have the code cleared again and complete one drive cycle 100 miles and then have codes read again. If you still get a Misfire error some other causes known to occur with Rio's are fuel filter issues, gas caps, and fuel injector issues. Although rare, these can cause issues with the cars fuel delivery and emissions which can confuse the sensor in the ECU. I would try injector cleaner, replace the fuel filter, and gas cap . If funds are an issue then based on symptoms I would start with injector cleaner first $3, Filter $12, Gas cap $12, Coil $48 to $200+

If you already replaced the wires, I would suggest replacing the plugs, distributor cap and rotor. They are also very important parts of the spark. Fuel injector problems can also cause misfires.

misfire :-------- try checking your 02 sensors /fuel pump and filter.

for 51 cylinder misfire :---
Change the coil. Period. Very easy to remove from the vehicle if it's a 4 cyl. Follow that spark plug wire from the spark plug to the other end. What it's attached to you should replace
for 54 cylinder 5 misfire :---First you have to eliminate the most obvious problems, like spark plug and spark plug wire. If you replace those and you still have a misfire, then it's a good idea to look for a vacuum leak in the intake manifold
