If its the fuel pump it may be froze up causing an overlaod on the circuit that would blow the fuse thats if it is for the fuel pump. The fuel pump turns on as soon as you turn the key on the other option is you have a short that would also cause the fuse to blow if you could look in the owners manual and find out exactly what the fuse feeds i could help you better but that is the best advise for the info you have right now. thank you

Thank you much for the info. Wierd thing is now I stuck a fuse in it and it runs but the two times it has done it to me I went probably the same distance when the fuse blown. So is it possible to for the fuel pump to overheat and days later be alright until the next time it overheats?

  • par sims Nov 11, 2010

yea its possible what is causing it to get stuck could be a number of things and could cause it to come and go. it wont overheating really just getting stuck causing the circuit to overload. Or it could be the other option a wire could be shorting out and as you drive with the vibrations the wire shorts i didnt ask before and im sorry i should of. when the fuse blows the car stop running correct?

  • brian401361 Nov 11, 2010

Yes the car stops running. Another thing im wondering is that there are some wires shorting out in the steering column or under the dash my other one had some problems similar then when you jiggled the wires under the dash it would start just didnt blow any fuses in would just die. Another reason that im suspect of that is when I turn my steering wheel while driving a relay in the same secondary fuse box makes a clicking sound. Thanks again for the response and hope to here back!

No solution here, but wondering what your next step was...I think the same thing happened to me, but wanted to check the fuse at least before I have my van towed to some mechanic in Italy. Did you locate the fuse? Which box and was it labeled something other than fuel pump?

Starting problem, motor cranks but won't turn over

A common fault is air in the fuel system caused by a fuel pump failure or just a simple pin hole in the fuel pipe allowing air into the fuel instead of fuel.

My automatic fuel pump seems not to be working, when l start it,it starts but goes off immediatly, tried add some fuel to it directly,it starts but goes of immediatly with the fuel still intact

Thanks for choosing Fixya and welcome to the site. You need to check your fuel pump fuse, relay, and if you have one, the fuel pump reset button. If all of these check out, you will probably need to check the fuel pump. The pump may be bad or something may be killing it. It may only be getting the signal for a second or two. Check those first and get back with me.

The same fuse blows immediatly when heater or radio are turned on

you have a shortcircuit on one of them . it seems like both of the appliances are wired on the same fuse. check for wires that have damaged isolation . Also, check on the diagram that is found on the cap of the circuit breaker box ,that you use the proper fuse when you replace it . Having two appliances on the same circuit ,one of them beeing the heater meens that you have a "big " fuse ,probbably 20A or 30A. If you once replaced it with a smaller one ,you will have the symptoms that you decribed. good luck.

Hi
I would really like to help you but for me to come to any conclusion you're going to have to provide your VIN number in other terms vehicle identification number with the VIN I would know exactly which model you have engine installed gearbox installed and certain other factors, you can leave out the last six numbers for they are not necessary and are the serial number of your car look for something starting with VF1.
An adhesive label bearing the car's identity card can be found on the B-pillar or an adhesive label with the VIN can be located at the bottom - left of the windscreen.

Where is the fuel pump reset switch on my 98 dodge ram 1500 sport?

There is likely a fuse and a relay. The relay is usually under the hood in a black plastic box along with other relays. The fuse is usually near by. Look under the lid of the box as the components are labeled there. Use a test lamp that says computer safe to check the power at the fuse when an assistant turns the key on. The light should come on for a few seconds and then turn off. You may have a failed fuel pump that is causing the fuse to blow. IF replacement of the fuel pump is nessecary, the cargo box will have to be removed (easier than removing fuel tank). ONLY replace with a complete fuel pump module as pump only replacements have a high failure rate. I know, I had to replace twice before getting the complete unit.

Trying to find the fuel pump FUSE.

There is no fuse specifically dedicated to the fuel pump on this year and model of Suburban. This Suburban is equipped with dual tanks and as such has two relay switches, primary and secondary, both of which are located at the main fuse box in the engine bay, that power up the respective fuel pumps.

The closest fuse (15A) controlling either of these relays also powers up the main control module (located beside and below the main fuse box). So, if one needs to disconnect the fuel pumps from functioning, then the only effective method is to disconnect the fuel pump relays.

There is a starter fuse in the black fuse box under the hood. It will have the label of each on it. If you replace the fuse, and it blows again, then the starter is bad.
