Question about 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Is there a tension or something you can tighten the bottom belt? We had to change the altanator and now can't get the belt back on.

How to tighten alternator belt on 1993 pathfinder

Four cylinder engine - loosen bottom pivot bolt on alternator, then loosen top bolt and pull the alternator away from the engine to tighten belt. When at proper tension, tighten top bolt to hold tension and tighten bottom pivot bolt.
Six cylinder engine - loosen the lock bolt at the bottom of the alternator, then use the adjustment bolt (perpendicular to the lock bolt) to tighten the belt tension. Once properly tensioned, tighten the lock bolt.

How to tighten the altanator belt on a 1983 chevy cavalier

It's alternator. Do you have a serpentine belt or seperate belt. If seperate, there are two bults on the alternator. Loosten both but do not remove. Take a prybar and pry back on alternator. Have someone hold the prybar while you tighten or hold yourself and tighten. If you have a serpentine belt, you need to replace the belt tensioner. The spring is weak inside the tensioner. It's 30 years old. remember that.

Cant find a way to losen belt to change altanator

9b71416.gif 1 is the belt tensioner, use a 3/8" breaker bar or surpentine belt tool to rotate the tensioner. Insert tool into the square hole and push to the right and the belt will loosen and can be removed.

If you have the inline 6 cyl. you may want to use a flathead screwdriver and pop out the protective cap on the tensioner. Its the one that is putting tension on the belt. then you will need a toric bit to compress the tensioner and release the belt

How do I install the altanator belt

The belt on these cars are a serpentine belt. One belt drives everything. To change it you first need to locate the belt tensioner. Will look like a small arm with about a two to three inch pulley on the end running against your belt. On the lower side of the arm below the pulley you will se a bolt head onthe tensioner about 13mm or 15mm(cant remember which) put a 1/2 inch drive rachet or a long wrench on this, longer is better for leverage because its spring loaded, and as you turn the head it should release the tension on the belt by pulling the tensioner back. If the bolt starts to come loose you are going the wrong way. Once the tension is released you should be able to remove the belt and replace it. Start tword tthe bottom pulleys when routing the new belt as it will be easier to pull back the tensioner again and put it on the top last. Hope this helps.

How to tighten the altanator

There should be two or three bolts that hold it in place. One place will
have a slot where the bolt goes through, this allows the alt to move back and forth so the belt can be tightened, Use two open end or box
wrenches after you locate the bolts, one on the front and one on back.
Tighten which ever end you have room to move the wrench, you can probably use a socket on the front and a box end wrench on the back.

If your asking how to tighten the belt, loosen the bolts that hold the alt,just slightly, you will have to find something to hold the alt in place so there is tension on the belt and re tighten the bolts. Be care as not to damage the alt, you might need someone to help you, one apply s tension and one tightens the bolts.

Before I had a tension set, I used a large screwdriver, just be careful not to hurt anything.

I replaced the altanator but i cant seem to get the bellt back on

there should be a tensioner that allows you to put it back on by pushing it down with a wrench makin it easy to put it back on

I am changing out the altanator on 2001 voyager,

there is a idle pully tensioner that you have to loosen enough until you can take the belt off

Changeing fan belts

fan bealt is easy to change all you need to do is right down how the belt runs befor you start and then loosen the alatanator and move it closer to loosen the belt then remove the belt around the fan and replace just like you wrote down then use a bar to tighten the belt by prying the altaator away from the motor but don't make it to tight then once tou have it as tight as you want tighten back the altanator and thats it
