Why is my truck misfiring/running poorly/rough idle

2 year old gas would be bad! It will have absorbed a lot of water condensation. Buy a bottle of fuel stabilizer and put that in the tank. Then put a couple of gallons in that front tank and keep topping up the other tank with fresh gas as you use it.

My car ran out of gas, now it will not start

If high miles, it may be a fuel pump. Fuel pumps usually go when gasoline is low and pump gets too warm. This may mimic running out of gas when there is a gallon or two of gas still left to draw but needle reads empty. Have someone put their ear to the gas tank while you turn on the ignition switch. the pump should run for 2-10 seconds with key on and not cranking.

If you don't hear the pump run, then investigate further for a failed pump.

I ran out of gas in my 2004 chevy tahoe today, got gas, about 2 gallons put in, and the truck wouldn't even start...didn't turn over...why?

IF YOU LET FUEL TANK RUN DRY.FUEL PUMP WILL OVER HEAT CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT.NEVER LET A FUEL INJECTION ENGINE RUN OUT OF FUEL.IT WILL DESTROY FUEL PUMP.

My chevy uplander 2007 ran out of gas. I have

Since the Uplanders have the long (front to back) skinny gas tank, with the outlet to the rear; if you run out of gas with the front/nose inclined lower than the rear, then it can take upwards of 5 to 8 gallons to get it started again. It was written up in a GM TSB. Two gallons won't start it. When the gage reads less than 1/2, it's not a good idea to park with the front lower than the rear...unless you carry a full 5 gal. refill. Thank you GM engineering.

Gas in Diesel Tank

not good.....need to drain tank first and refill with correct fuel...then you will need to drain and flush the fuel lines and injector pump....bleed the pump and lines and injectors and cross your fingers....good luck

Won't start

if it wont start, then chances are that you have seized the fuel pump, due to running it below 1/8th of a tank alot. this is common on chevy 1500 series and 2500 series gasoline engines

2004 nissan titan...ran out of gas

Good chance that even on 4 gallons it may not start I would try for more, prime the fuel pump several times by turning the key on and leaving it on for around 5 seconds then shutting it off and repeating, obviously not trying to start. I've had cases where even small FWD cars won't start even on 4 gallons on a 12 gallon tank. The newer fuel pumps are a closed system that only allow a small portion of fuel into the pump housing to keep contamination down. Let me know if after adding a few more gallons it won't start we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using fixya.com
