Question about 1986 Ford F 250

I have a 86 ford f250 6c 4.9L.when i turned the key the truck started but the starter kept going.I turned the key off but the starter still kept turning.I had to pop the hood and disconect the battery for it to stop. what can i do?

Simple replace the solenoid this will fix it
also check all ground wires

hey johnny it's definitely your starter relay it's locked inside and is sending power from the battery directly through the relay from one cable to the other straight to the battery that's why it continues to keep starting this happened to me and the starter motor just kept turning and my truck would not shut off

Starter does not engage when key is turned to start

assuming battery fully charged hook test lite between good groud and small starter terminal have somebody to crank if lits chek power and ground to starter and replace starter if no lit go to starter relay terminal 30 and 87 use a piece off wire and momentarily bridge them if starter bumps the engine check terminals 85 86 one is power when cranking the other is ground if starter bumps and test lit hooked to 85 86 lits replace relay if no lite keep tracing ckt to ignition switch

Starter keeps turning even when key is turned off

Curious, do you have an autostart installed? I had that happen that the Autostart shorted and just kept telling my starter to continue cranking

Starter not disingaging

you need to replace the contacts in the starter solenoid this is a fairly simple job and will cost around $30
