Hello Kimberly.
Many things will make your car harder on fuel.
It may be time for a tune up. Spark plugs, air filter, ignition timing.
Or perhaps low tire pressures, longer warm up time on cold days, a thermostat that is running too cold, brakes that are sticking, a change in driving habits or conditions or different type of engine oil the last oil change.
There are the list of things that I would look for one of my customers with a similar concern. I hope it helps you too.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Gas release in ford tempo 1986

There isn't one. You have to pull the fuel pump fuse or relay. Start the car and let it run out of gas to relieve the pressure. All I do is loosen the nut at the fuel rail or fuel filter with a cloth/rag around it to keep it from spraying on me.

Sound like your fuel pump might need to be replace, while some one crank engine, hit gas tank with hammer (hard), some time's will start, if not possible bad fuel pump.

'94 Tempo starts fine sometimes & then not. Does fuel pump sense when there is ignition to turn off the pump? Maybe module?

in that kind of problems you shold check your ignition switch or your gas pump sensors as well as your gas pump.
