Get under the front of the car and look between the radiator shroud and engine and you will find it. it is against the engine inline with the transmissiom. about 4" in diameter with a big wire going to it. it also has other wires going to it.

Problem with 1996 Pontiac Grand Am I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1l. The other night my wife took it out to gas it up. When she went to restart it made funny clicking (ticking) sounds, but did no

The 'ticking' could be lack of power to the starter motor. Get the battery checked 'under load' by a good garage. An old battery can lose it ability to push the voltage through the starter motor. If it's not the battery it may be the starter motor itself

Replace the starter, the solenoid is bad on the starter, and you can not just replace the starter on this one.

Car wont start

Try cecking your airbag modules, its located under the passenger seat in the car, it happened to mine, it wouldnt start. My mechanic removed the air bag modules and it fired right up, give it a try if all else fails. Its seems to be some sort of a theft system that caused my car not to start. Good Luck!

96 pontiac grand am 2.4 starter doesnt stay engaged

Check that the flywheel is not missing any teeth. Also check the geartip at the starter where it kicks into the flywheel for wear at the tip.
