It's not necessarily the valve. the code is for the sensor on top of the valve. Check the connector to that sensor. make sure it's on all the way. If not, take it off and check the pins inside. Make sure there are no bent pins. Reconnect and do your thing with the battery cable to see if the light will stay off. If not, you can try cleaning the EGR valve. It is more likely the sensor is bad rather than the EGR valve, because there would usually be more codes if the EGR valve was bad.

    Trouble Code: P0406
EGR Position Sensor Circuit High Input

    Possible Causes:

    Intermittent condition

EGR Sensor signal is shorted to VREF (5v) supply circuit or to battery voltage

EGR Sensor ground circuit is open

EGR Sensor signal circuit is open

EGR Sensor is damaged (it may have an internal open circuit)

    EGR solenoid failure

    PCM has failed

2009 crv check fuel cap

Go to the parts store where you bought the cap. Sometimes the code clears on it's own and sometimes you need to have it reset. If this is not an option disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute. Just as a warning, if you disconnect the battery you will have to reprogram most all of your electronics.

Check engine light stays on, I have repladed the EGR valve and the fuel filter,

once the engine light came on, and you replaced the egr valve and the fuel filter, did you use a diagnostic code tester to see what code it was before you replaced these two items, if so, then the code tester can remove the engine light from being on, or if you don't have the tester, just disconnect the positive battery cable for about 1 minute, and then reconnect it back up, the light should be out now, but you will have to re set your clock, and radio functions if they were disturbed from the disconnection of the cable.

My egr tube is disconnected at the bottom is that why my check engine light is on and i keep getting egr insufficient?

i would hook the tube back up, and then disconnect the positive battery cable for about 1 -2 minutes , then reconnect it, then start up engine, and the check engine light should have went out, also you will have to re set your radio, and clock functions, since cable was disconnected, hope that this has helped you.

1998 Accord EX V6 engine light on / put it on the computer, which said EGR valve was bad / bought new EGR valve for @$160.00 and swapped it out myself plus disconnected battery for 15-30 minutes to reset...

Check the EGR vacuum regulator and make sure you have battery voltage to the solenoid. If voltage is present then check the regulator resistance. To check resistance you need to remove the wiring harness and using an ohm meter make sure that it is within your vehicles specifications. You can also try testing the vehicles Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor.

1997 avalon xl engine light on runs great egr valve can it be clean ?

All you need do is to take the car for a scan. If there is an error code get back to me.

Or if there seem not to be a code you need to reset the service engine soon/ check engine light.

The check engine light stays on. When I connect the computer it says it is the gas cap or the EGR. I put a new gas cap on. Check engin light stays on. How difficult is it to replace the EGR valve?

its easy too replace but you need too reset your cmputer first too see if the light stays out before you go and buy the egr valve
disconnect the pos side of the battery for 5 min that will reset the computer,if the light comes back on then get the egr valve then you will have too reset it again
