Question about 1997 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Do I need to have a transmission cooler for my 1997 Maxima LE? Some hoses under the car connected to one are leaking and need replacing. But, I thought a transmission cooler was a support subsystem for a heavy towing package and if I don't have a tow bar/hitch on the car, do I need this any longer?

4 cyl., 5 speed. Why is it leaking somewhere under the frame - not transmission fluid

Smell the fluid. If it smells like gasoline you have a gas leak. If it smells like antifreeze you could have a hose or a anti freeze cooler line leaking. Or could be a water pump leaking and running along the frame under the car. Get a flash light and crawl under neath the vehicle and see where the fluid is coming from.

Change the combination power steering hose which is leaking

Is it the power steering hose or a transmission line.Honda does not usually attach power steering lines to the radiator, but the transmission cooler lines are attached to the bottom of the radiator. If it is the transmission cooler line leaking, simply replace the line from the radiator to the transmission with 1/2 inch transmission line and some new clamps.May want to do both lines while you are making the repair.

On the front of your truck where your radiator is there is a transmission cooler, there are lines running from your transmission to that cooler they could be leaking, the transmission cooler is behind the grill on the front of your truck infront of your radiator, and as far as a stop leak, myself it is alot cheaper than buying a transmission, I would suggest that you use CD2 transmission stop leak, just a suggestion.

How do you replace the transmission cooler on my 89 oldsmobile cutlass supream

Your trans cooler is located inside one of the radiator tanks and would be expensive to replace.
You can either replace the radiator with new or used or cut the lines and install an external cooler as is used for towing. If the cooler in the radiator is leaking, you need to flush the system to remove as much oil as possible or it will cause hoses to soften and fail. Also wise to change trans fluid as well.
Always use double clamps when running rubber lines for cooler so they don't slide apart under pressure.

The auxillary IS the second cooler. Theres only one radiator. Some have a engine oil cooler. If you see the cooler thats leaking, I dont see why you cant find where it connects?

There is a line right above the oil pan toward the front of the truck with a bronze type grip that is leaking trans fluid what do i need to fix it and how?

there are two lines that carry transmission fluid to the radiator for cooling ... these lines frequently go bad and leak .. they are called transmission cooler hoses .. if thats your trouble .. they should be replaced at least every 10 years ... they are under low pressure so don't usually blow out .. they can leak for a long time without serious failure .. but if on does fail you will be stranded ..

Transmision line directly under lower radiater house is leaking.how to fix? 6.0 liter 2001 chevy 107000 miles

You've got one line going into the radiator and that line exits on the other side. If the leak is outside of the connection and you have enough room to add a few inches of hose to correct it, then just go to a parts store and buy a hose splicer, and 2 clamps to fix.

If the leak is too close to the radiator, buy yourself a small add on transmission cooler & extend the hoses to run to it to cure the problem.

Either way isn't that expensive. The cooler has basic instructions and is fairly easy to install in-line to correct the leak.

good luck

Trans, cooler ? Does the Dodge 2002 Intrepid have a transmission cooler, in front of or near the radiator, if so can fluid leaks occur after replacing the main radiator on the car. Have one that has leaked...

Hi:
You are correct. Almost all automatic cars have a transmission cooler connected to the radiator with 2 hoses, near the bottom. If the hoses are leaking or not installed correctly, all of the fluid from your transmission will get pumped out on the ground, and you won't be able to move the car. Inspect the two hoses and hopefully you will find your problem.

Transmission leak

Find out if your car has a transmission cooler. If it does this hose would be a transmission cooler line. (wouldnt be covered in a manual). Transmission cooler would not be installed by the factory (after market).
