Transmission fluid

When I changed the transmission oil on my 88 Buick lesabre limited I took 6 qts of Dextron VI, and it is also wise to change the transmission filter. U can purchase the transmission filter kit from any auto parts store, not neccessarily the dealer. This is the best change for the vehicle.

Took a 2003 Buick Lesabre in for transmission fluid change. It appears that they changed the filter, drained the pan, replaced and filled with 14 quarts of Dextron III fluid. Car drives rough with...

14 quarts sounds like a lot! If it is not far, take it back immediately and have it fixed by them at no charge. If it is far, check the level again and if it is in fact as high as you say, call them and have them tow it to their shop for repairs. Do not drive this car otherwise, you will whip the fluid into foam and it will spill out of the filler tube and potentially cause a fire. Document, document, document this case.

Where is the oil drain plug on my 2003 buick lesabre?

Should be directly below the engine at the oil drain pan. It should be a larger drain bolt that screws into the oil drain pan.

The transmission pan may be next to it but won't have a drain plug. The transmission fluid pan has several small bolts that hold it on and the whole pan has to be dropped to change that fluid.

Good luck on finding hte oil drain plug for the 2003 Buick LeSabre.

92 buick lesabre, when cold, trans disengages and revs and then jerks into gear. It is fine the rest of the day. Any solutions??? Thanks

It may help to change the transmission fluid but be ready to replace it or have it rebuilt in the future.

Where is trans drain plug 1993 buick lesabre

On most transmissions there's not a drain plug. The entire pan has to be unbolted and the filter is above the pan. It's a messy job. Once you get most of them loosened the fluid will drai past the gasket. When youbuy new fluid get filter and new gasket.

1997 buick lesabre 130,000 miles auto. goes into drive fine and rev. but when driving it it wont shift the moter races and wont shift like it stayes only in 1st

Check the transmission fluid and see if it's low on fluid. If it is more than one pint low it could cause slippage, With that many miles if you have not done a transmission oil and filter change then you will need to do this first when they pull the pan they can tell if you need to overhaul the transmission. Hope this helps you. The cost for a transmission oil and filter change ranges from $150.00 to $200.00.

I am about to change tranny filter and gasket on 2000 buik lesabre is there any special precautions I need to take

Not other then having a oil pan large enough to hold the transmission oil that's going to drain from the transmission.

Drain the Transmission Fluid and Replace the Filter
Raise, support and level the buick on jack stands or ramps. Place a drain pan that can hold at least 4 quarts of fluid beneath the transmission.
Employ a socket wrench to remove the retaining bolts on the fluid pan, except for the two on either end. Loosen the two bolts on the lower end of the pan. Gently pull down on the edge of the pan so that it separates from the transmission case. Let the fluid drain. You may need to tap the pan with a rubber hammer to separate the pan from the case.
Remove the last four bolts and the pan when the fluid finishes draining. Loosen the bolts a little at a time, allowing the remaining fluid to drain. Clean the pan and the magnet inside.
Scrape the old sealant from the pan flange with an appropriate scraping tool. Do the same on the mating surface of the transmission case.
Remove the filter, Look for the filter and the O ring between the filter and valve body and remove it.
Install the new transmission fluid filter and gasket. Place the new gasket on the mounting flange of the fluid pan. Replace the fluid pan on the transmission and tighten the bolts to 165 inch pounds with a torque wrench. Return the Buick to the ground.
Replace the New Transmission Fluid
Pour 4 quarts of ATF fluid into the filler tube using a funnel. Start the engine and let it idle for a minute or two. Apply the parking brake and the service brake. Move the gear selector through the gears and stop at "Park" or "Neutral.
Add enough fluid to bring the level to 1/8 inch below the "Add" indicator, if needed. Let the van run for another 10 to 20 minutes to allow the engine and transmission to reach a normal operating temperature
Check the fluid level again to ensure it reached the "Hot" indicator on the dipstick. Add more fluid if needed and replace the dipstick in the filler tube. Turn off the engine.
Good luck and hope this helps.

I have a question. I have a 1992 Buick Lasabre Limited, and I am leakin fluid from the side a the transmission, not from the pan cause i just did the fluid and filter change. They said it was the oil pan...

When redoing the pan for the transmission, the gaskets can be tricky to get back on.  Make sure you use a RTV sealant compound to hold the gasket to the pan.  Make sure all surfaces are clean and free from any transmission fluid.  You have to follow the manufactures specifications reguarding bolt pattern and torque.  If the bolts are not put on in a certain order and to a certain tightness, you are sure to have a leak.
