97 GMC Safari Cargo: engine turns but will not start

A couple of days ago as I was driving down Highway i hit a lil hump coming off a bridge and the Van stalled...i checked gas up to my pressure relief and it was good...I checked spark on distributor plugs and coils and it was good..battery good...So I eneded up leaving it there until next day and when I got back to my van, It started right up. I parked it for a while and went back to drive it and it wouldn't start. So thats been the procedure since the first day it stalled. HELP!

Safari's tend to have problems with the rotor button on the distributer. Your's may be going bad. At first the van will stall as you described, due to a jarring of the motor, ie: a bump. etc., and then it will restart.

After a while the rotor button will fail completely.

I have had this same problem with two safar's and this is the solution that I have found.

My 2003 gmc safari cargo van has been trying to overheat when I turn ac on what could it be?

If your gmc safari cargo van overheats when the ac is on, your radiator and cooling system may be clogged and not working at peak efficiency.

Make sure your radiator cooling fan goes on as soon as you turn the a/c on.

I replaced sparks and cables and when you drive the van gmc safari 97 you felled like no power to run and begining a failed like no power what you thinks is possible thanks

Was the problem there before you changed plugs and wires? If not then it's something that you did, possibly crossed a couple plug wires. If the problem was there before you started and you are not getting a check engine light. Try disconnecting the exhaust at the exhaust manifold, just take the pipes loose, or if you can get them fairly easy unscrew the O2 sensor from the exhaust pipe. Try driving now for test purposes only, you may have a plugged catalytic converter. I just worked on a Suburban that had no power in fact it would barely run, that's what I found with that vehicle.

97 safari won't start when wet, after it rains the van will not start, fuel pump is new, seems like no spark, let dry for couple of days and it runs like normal

Had same exact problem, it was a bad coil. I could not duplicate "no start" problem with water bottle. Replaced coil and problem gone.
Note: There was a noticeable engine misfire at highway speeds on humid days. This accompanied the no start problem.

97 GMC diesel just quit while driving on highway

First thing on a diesel problem such as yours, would be FUEL FILTER. On GM diesels a clogged filter affects a diesel even more than on a gas engine. NOW if the filter doesn't cure your problems, I'm afraid tio say the injection pump could be at fault, and thats another story. Hope this helps

GMC Safari start problem

I think it's the fuel pump or the fuel pump filter.

Check the fuel system that's where your problem is, my bet is your fuel pump has left this world to a better place.
