Question about 1999 Chevrolet Tracker

1 Answer

I have a 1999 4x4 tracker. It has the 16 valve FI engine with the 2 coils on top of the valve cover. Will I have any problem installing a 1999 2.0 engine in my tracker. Will everthing bolt up correctly?

my guess is you meant changing carbon core
HV spark wires, but the plug wells are like oil pits. (flooded) SUPER COMMON.

(not spark tips carbon-ed up. right)

get he MAG wires and win.! max life and better spark!!!

all G16b do this seen 100s and all C.O.P engines.
1 cause
owners did not do full 60k mile tuneup
per operators guide, lost it have it ask.
the valve lash step, demands a new valve cover gasket set.
if not it will fAIL, it will, like pissn on a sparkplug
bam. like texas talk, i do...sorry

and a cam belt.. forgot that too?
that is fail 2 , in the woods,

not one of those parts last the life of engine

Need timing belt diagram for 95 geo tracker 4x4 auto 1.6 engine

the instructions on all new gates belts have that, and Dayco.

G16 a engine or B engine, the steps are different,
the 8valve ""A" engines needs valves lash set very loose.
G16A (TBI engine 8v) black top engine.
http://www.fixkick.com/t-belt/tbelt8v.html

G16B MPI , 16valve (top of engine shouts, 16 vavles)
http://www.fixkick.com/t-belt/16-fast-belt-install.html

the factory pages are there and the maxed out steps way is there.
every itty bitty steps, and the 15 ways to mess it all up.
see those false timing marks
they used the cam cog wheel on 2 engines, one 3 cylinder other 4.
making this tricky, if not alert.

the tracker the GM badged car has a vin that tells what engine,
vin 6 or VIN U
6 is for 16 valves
and a GM RPM tag on the glove box.
LS5 = 8v
LO1 = 16v
ufiche actual

make sure the bottom crank bolt 17mm head is at
94ft/lbs first or BOOM.

Have 95 tracker. Front cylinder has spark injector clicks when turn to on. pull injector wire runs same, pull plug wire runs same? what should i do next?

spark injector? no such An-i-mule.

the G16B (KV) engine, is it? has 4 spark plugs
and 4 fuel injectors.??
so you pulled what?
you have a dead cylinder, if you check the heat on the front
exhaust header tube, it will be cold or way colder ,using any pyro gun.
which engine,
http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/8v16v.JPG
see them here, ?
http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/16v-engine93w.jpg

whats next that is easy its called a compression gauge.
i must guess engine, do the top valve cover on the engine shout
16 valves?
if yes, make sure the spark wells (deep pits) are not full of oil
or water. if full of oil, the last owner never check valve lash
at 60k miles and replace the valve cover gasket (set)
or if water someone used pressure washer on the engine (bad)

the full compression test is here.

Changing pvc valve

1995 Geo Truck Tracker 4WD 1.6L TBI SOHC 4cyl
The PCV Valve is located under hood, center, upper engine area, top of engine, mounted in passenger side of intake manifold.

The low gas mileage and the versatility that your 1995 through 1999 Geo Tracker offers are two benefits of owning it. The maintenance needs to be kept up on your Geo Tracker. One form of this maintenance is to replace the valve cover gasket once you have driven 100,000 miles or more.
  1. Allow your engine to cool. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air inlet hose and air intake case or air cleaner housing. Detach the PCV valve hose from the PCV valve. Separate and remove the spark plug wires and the accelerator cable from their clips.
  2. Loosen and remove the valve cover bolts. Lift the cover up and off. Using a flathead screwdriver, gently nudge the gasket out of the gasket seating area. Using automotive engine cleaner and a clean cloth rag, clean the gasket seating area.
  3. Place the new gasket in the gasket seating area. Put the cover back into place. Put the bolts in and then using a torque wrench tighten them. Do not over tighten the bolts or the gasket will not fit correctly. Reconnect the spark plug wires and the accelerator cable in the holding clips.
  4. Reconnect the rubber hose to the PCV valve. Install the air intake case, or air cleaner housing, and the air inlet hose. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Add oil to the car and start the engine. Allow the car to run 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the oil to lubricate the engine while it moves to the top.
I hope helps with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.
