Question about 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T New Cars
Its emissions, go to an auto part store and they should have an obd2 reader and it will scan the emissions system and tell you what is wrong. more than likely an o2 sensor. also check the gas cap and make sure its on good that will make it come on too.

It could be one of literally thousands of codes. Many auto part stores will scan your code for free. Be sure to write it down.

Have it checked for trouble codes sounds like it could be an injector problem or something as serious as a loose rocker, maybe try a crank&cam shaft position sensors

Directions are in the book, but you would put the key in and turn it all the way, just don't start engine. Pump gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times slowly, but it has to be with 10 seconds. Turn key off and when you start again, oil changed chime and warning should not be on. If it is, try again.

SOURCE: check engine light is on.
you'll need to pull the codes. There are hundreds of possibilities. With the code(s) you will be able to identify the problem a lot easier. Call around, some parts stores will pull codes for free. Shops will usually have a fee that includes the diagnostic time to figure out the cause of the code and determine the correct repair.
Some common things are loose gas cap or O2 sensor issues but like I said it could be any number of a hundred or so different things.
