Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

01 grand cherokee fan relay/oil pressure

Is there a possible link between the fan relay switch and the oil pressure sending unit and/or pressure switch? I've been replacing one after the other. If the fan relay switch is replaced, the oil pressure gauge goes crazy. If I replace the oil pressure sending unit and pressure switch, the fan relay stops working. Some sort of short or wiring harness problem?

Having a similar issue. My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has suddenly started giving me a "check gauges" light when idiling. I noticed that my oil pressure was low, but as soon as I stepped on the gas it would go back to normal. This morning (June 20 '08) my battery was completely dead. As soon as I hooked up the jumper cables, my fan came on without even the keys in the ignition. After rechargig the battery, and shutting off the engine the fan continues to run.

Same issues. Oil pressure drops when idling but then goes to an acceptable level in normal drive mode. Guages and oil volume OK. Currently in shop.

I bought a used 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo and after buying it the check guages light came on and the only abnormal thing was the oil pressure. I bought a diagnostic reader for the car plugged it in right after incident and everything checked out of. I bought a new oil pressure sendintg unit and nothing changed. I then took it to Jeep and they said that when the used car dealer flushed the engine all the crud in the engine did not get drained with the flush and the oi

l pump pickup filter got clogged with all the ****. $800 later I have a new oil pump and all my bearings checked. Unfortunately I had a check guage light come on one time in the last two months since it was worked on. I have no idea any more what it is.

I have a 2000 and let me tell the rest of you what will happen. My fan and relay switch have been replaced 3 times, the oil gauge showed low at idle and fine at speed. Now it only works intermittently. The electrical systems in these things are horible. I have had the gauge problem now for 2 years and can't find a resolution. If anyone knows give me a shout.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but i had a issue with my jeep running hot and check engine light coming on as well. After alot of trips to different shops - the last one found that there were two senors in the engine for the fan that need to be changed. Everyone would aways fine the one up top but not the second one. After that, have not had any other problems like it since.

02 cherokee losing oil pressure when accelerating, fine at idle.

Was the sending unit an aftermarket part?We like to install the original part back into most vehicle, but because of people price shopping, this can cause some issues. If the switch is working properly, the gauge should rise as the engine RPM's increase as you stated. With the key on and the engine off, disconnect the sending unit wire and ground it. The gauge should go to the highest reading, and that checks the wire, and the gauge. I suspect that the sending unit is failed or not the proper one for your vehicle.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

Difference between oil sending unit and the oil pressure switch

Same part...make sure you get one for gauge, not idiot light though. If the engine has any knocking or ticking when pressure drops do not drive it and have a mechanical gauge installed to check actual pressure. Parts often have different names for same item...your driveshaft is actually called a propeller shaft!!!
