There is no relay for your sunfire if I remember correctly. Its just wiring, fuse and a switch.

The switch has a holding circuit that allows the defogger to run a certin amount of time and then turn off until you hit the switch again. It will usally be the likely suspect in this equation.

Wiring diagram for rear window defogger 2005 silverado from dash to deffoger

Rear Window Defogger System Components
The rear window defogger system consist of the following components:
• HVAC control module
• Body control module (BCM)
• DEFOG relay
• Rear window defogger grid
Rear Window Defogger Operation
When you turn the ignition to the ON position, ignition voltage is supplied to the DEFOG relay coil. Battery positive voltage is supplied at all times to the DEFOG relay switched input. When the rear window defogger switch is depressed, the HVAC control module illuminates the rear window defogger indicator and sends a class 2 message to the BCM. The BCM energizes the DEFOG relay by grounding the control circuit of the relay. This allows battery positive voltage from the relay switched input through the switch contacts and out the relay switched output to the rear window defogger. Ground for the rear window defogger is provided by G306 or G390 (crew cab).
When you turn ON the ignition and press the rear window defogger switch for the first time, the defogger cycle lasts 10 minutes. Further operation results in 5 minute defogger cycles.

Do you know what your messing with ? What's the problem ?

How come on my 2005 pontiac aztek if i take out the rear defroster fuse (#21) the light still lights up on my dash and the relay still clicks?? Help why did this rear defroster stop working?!?

I found this. Your heated mirror also works off that relay. You can do ohms test on the grid, if the grid is open, no continuity. The auto store should sell a product to paint over the open spot to restore continuity, if you can find the open spot.
Not trying to cause trouble, just killing time. Have a good day.

Rear defrost

There is usually a relay involved in the rear defogger circuit. I would check for power on the wire at the window connector with key on and defroster button on. If power there, the window grid may have a break. If no power, will have to work back in the wiring diagram.

My rear window defrost doesn't work. could it be a fuse. if so which fuse isit? i don't have a manel.

Check in the engine compartment, there should be a fuse panel. In there you will find multiple relays and fuses. Check all of the fuses to make sure that they are good. There also might be another fuse panel in the car so check that one as well. If all fuses are good, check the defogger itself for scratches or cuts and the connectors to it to make sure they are tight. If all checks good then it might be the switch. There is no relay for it from my understanding. The switch has a holding circuit built in that makes the defroster work for a limited amount of time and then turn off automatically.

2002 Alero defogger

A common thing to fial on these- assumning the grid is ok, and wires are still attched to grid, is the rear def / antenna module. It is behind rt. rear quarter trim panel. The modules burn up, and also melt the connector. the module and connector would need to be replaced.

2001 Sienna rear window defogger doesn't work

There are 3 fuses that control the rear defogger, and 1 relay

The fuses are: 10 amp HEATER, 10 amp MIRROR-HEATER; under the dash
The 30 amp DEF fuse is in the fuse box under the hood
The relay is the DEFOGGER relay, which is on the back side of the fuse panel under the dash

Also, check for a loose wire on the defroster grid (on the back glass), this is the most common problem.
