Hey, its at all engine temperatures, seems to be all throttle positions and there is no smoke.

    Hi

Ok, I was afraid you would say that!! That means more questions I'm afraid!!

Does the car feel like its not running on all 4 cylinders? Like maybe two for instance? It would sound like a tractor? I ask this because you use the word CHUGGING.

If so then pull one of the plug leads off the EDIS unit or spark plug then start the car. If it starts and runs exactly the same as it has been doing then make a note of which cylinder the lead you pulled goes to and then refit it. Do this for all 4 leads.

If both cylinders 1 and 4 are misfiring, OR both cylinders 2 and 3, then the EDIS unit will need attention.

If you have only one misfire, a different combination to the above, or no misfires, then we shall move on.

    Regards

    Geordie

    Hi, Majx

I wonder if you could just clear a couple of points up for me before I assess your little problem...

Is this at all engine temperatures, only with a cold engine, or only with a hot engine?

Does it happen only at light throttle, only under acceleration, or at all throttle positions?

    And finally...

Is there any smoke, and if so, what colour?

    Very best regards

    Geordie

The water pump doesn't run without this belt. I suspect the engine was overheated even if the gauge or light didn't yet register. I hope I'm wrong... This heads will overheat very quickly and have a low tolerance for this. I replace my belt and throw the old one in the trunk for just such a calamaty.

1998 ford escort won't start; engine won't fire up?

CHECK FOR THE FUEL STRAINER/FILTER! could have been clogged.
check for blockage at the air intake.
check for battery voltage and current, insufficient starting speed makes less compression and makes ignition very difficult!
due to several ignition attempts battery might have discharged a lot! you may have it checked for its voltage and acidity level

presence of water on the fuel can also cause your problem! it prevents the fuel to ignite at the cylinder.
