Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have a 1999 silverado with a 4.8 in it that is slipping out of gear and wont go int fourth gear, it is an automatic too. Do have any idea what is causing it to do it??

Most likely the clutch or the fourth gear is defective. But it might also be from the solenoid controlling the hydraulic piston of the clutch. The only way to know for sure is to have the error codes read - it's a very simple and cheap operation that even some parts stores can do it : it's just connecting a small handheld fault code reader to the truck. The error codes will tell you what part is defective.

How do i adjust the gear selector automatic to go int 1srt gear


Adjust your selector cable. Put selecror in N. Loosen the nut of the cable on the tranny. Move the gearbox selector untill the two smole hles line up. Insert philips screwdriver in the holes and tighten your cable bolt securely.

Gear shifter wont go into fifth or reverse


Check the shifter linkage to make sure nothing has slipped.

either your fourth gear control solenoid is bad or trans is going out. ck fluid level and look , smell if burnt trans is bad . have scanned to ck fourth gear solenoid.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado with automatic transmission. When the transmission is shifting from first to second gear it jerks really hard like a thrust when changing.


have it scanned, probably has a code 1870 (transmission component slipping)
means torgue converter is slipping beyond specs, actual casue is valve body is wore out causing pressure problems

what it means is it is slipping. now the first thing you can do is drop the oil out of it and change the filter. add lucas trans additive and go for a couple of days if the problem goes away as often times it does it's because the valve body inside the trans is gummed up, and the lucas removes this. if the problem persists it could be either a defective engine speed sensor or a faulty trans control module. i would take it to a shop and have them hook a scan tool to it. it will show which one is the fault. please rate this.
