Its starting but its taking a couple of extra turns of the starter to then kick in runs fine after that. The glow plugs are okay and so is the battery. It is a 2005 Shogun Elegance DID.

I have a Nissan NP 200 1.5 Dci that will not start with the starter being cranked, but will start when kick started.

Has the ignition switch been tested? It is a known problem that the switch drops out the ignition circuit power during cranking, result is a crank and no start. The switch is what is turned by the ignition key cylinder.

53 focus tdci won't start off key Battery 13.8v Fitted new glow plugs as flashed b4 cutting out Replaced starter Will run if bumped turned off won't restart, will start with few turns if temp is mid

Diesel will run if you have electricity and good compression. If you have no fault codes on the dash and everything is fine it should run. If you are starting it with a tow rather than a bump have the compression checked, have you got the correct oil and enough of it.
RIt may be that the glow plugs do not warm up, you may have changed the plugs themselves but is the circuit that supplies them functioning. I had a Laguna that wouldn't warm the pluds because the harness that distributed power to the individual plugs had a break before plug 1, changed this and bingo!. You should run a full test on the glow plug power. (Having said that , the fact that it does not start when warm indicates that this may not be the caude of your problem.
A compression check is also advisable if you get no joy from the glow plugs. If you are low on compression have your timing belt checked , it is possible it has jumped a little. We had a peugeot that jumped, it still ran, did so for six months , but you could hear the valves hitting the pistons. It would run but not very well, it would not accelerate very well maxing out at 55mph. When I say we, I mean a member of the family I hasten to add. I advised that it be checked out but to no avail. Eventually it was taken to have the head replaced and carried on fine for a couple of years , he had a lucky escape. Have the timing belt checked. Also, have the fuel pressure checked at the manifold, should be around 490-45psi. If it is not have the pump checked make sure the fuel filter is clean, the air filter must be clean too.

For a diesel to run you need duel, air, electricity, the fuel ignites (slowly) because of the compression process, the glow plugs initiate the engine start and then, as the engine warms up, the residual heat helps the ignition process. This is why I am dubious about the glow plugs being the cause, if the engine is hot it will normally run.
There are any number of possibilities. You will have to run through them systematically.
1 glow plugs
2 compression
3 fuel supply
4 air supply
5 compression
6 timing

Also, have the OBD scanned for error codes

GOOD LUCK

89 Ford E350 Diesel - two problems 1) no power to instrument cluster, 2) diesel will not fire off without starter fluid...but the glow plug solenoid does click and wait light goes off

You should never use starter fluid when the glow plugs are hooked up. It can cause severe engine damage. You probably need to replace all the glow plugs and the glow plug controller.

My 1993 seville was running fine, I turned it off and when I tried to start it again the starter kicked but the engine would not turn over as if it's stuck or locked.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

My 2003 Renault Megane Scenic 1.9dci expression won't start

The funny sound you mentioned must be identified, could it be the starter trying badly to turn. Here the fault of your battery drain is that the glow plugs take a lot of current and it must NOT come ON when the starter motor runs. Hence the fault could be your GLOW plug relay unit with the auto cut off timer that is faulty. If you keep draining the battery to a lower threshold level , there is every possiblity that the battery life will be lowered . I hope the present battery rating is the recommended Amp/hr rating to give the extra run for the morning start. Next area of suspicion is the starter motor itself , it could have a bad commutator or a bush. It will be good to have a clean up and service. Finally check for excessive drain on your battery with a current check in series for the drain current when the switch if off. If the current exceeds the limit disconnect each circuit to confirm. hope this advice helps. good day

Toyota hilux 3ltr diesel,i put new glow plugs in about 3 weeks ago & it fixed the starting problem going fine.now it just started not starting when it is cold checked wiring has power to glow plugs...

Double check your fuel filter and replace as necessary. Also replace your coolant temp sensor. I would also pull out each glow plug and bench test with heavy cables and make sure they do glow red. It very well could be a couple of the glow plugs have failed due to quality. Let me know what you find.

Starter kick back

If this is a gas engine, check the ignition coil or plug wires. A simple test...

Start the truck at night, then look under the hood while it's running. Don't use a flashlight or your headlights; it should be dark !

If you see sparks anywhere around the engine, you've found the problem. Now you can turn on a light to see where they're coming from - probably from a cracked ignition coil.

Good luck !

I am assuming this a cold weather only issue ?? Turn your key to on before cranking it over for about 5 sec to let the glow plug heat up a moment. Not allowing the glow plug to warm will wear out your starter.
