What have the repair shops and dealer diagnosed so far? And what have they done to "fix" the problem? A lean condition sometimes is caused by a vacuum leak in the intake.

Possible causes

- Faulty Oxygen Sensor

- Vacuum leak affecting bank 1 only

- Fuel injector problem bank 1

- Check for cylinder misfire on bank 1

- Engine mechanical condition

Tech notes

Though the Oxygen (O2) sensor, the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a lean system, which means that there is either not enough fuel or and excessive amount of air in the system. Start by checking for vacuum leaks.

When is the code detected?

The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected bank 1 oxygen (O2) at its lean limit

Possible symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1131 Ford Description

A Heated Exhaust Oxygen (HO2S) sensor indicating rich at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-lean condition. The test fails when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time.

When is the code detected?
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detected the HO2S12 sensor has reported a lean condition for an extended period during an intrusive test
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- High Fuel Consumption
- Excessive Smoke from Exhaust
P2270 Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies a voltage of about 450 mV between the HO2S high and low signal circuits. The oxygen sensor varies the voltage over a range from about 1,000 mV when the exhaust is rich, down through about 10 mV when the exhaust is lean.
The PCM monitors and stores the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) voltage information. The PCMevaluates the HO2S voltage samples in order to determine the amount of time the HO2S voltage was out of range. The PCM compares the stored HO2S voltage samples taken within each sample period and determines if majority of the samples are out of the operating range.

How do you repair a code po171 on a 06 chevy trailblazer

DTC P0171: Bank 1 system too lean. Probable cause:
1. Wire harness fault. Check for correct voltage, open, Short to ground, short to voltage.
2. Fuel pressure problem. Check pump, regulator, filter and lines
3. Exhaust leaks or restrictions
4. Vacuum leaks. Damaged hoses or incorrect routing
5. Fuel contamination
6. Sensor installed incorrectly

Bank 1 Too Lean on 2006 Kia Sedona

Use the codes you have to diagnose

Could be a rich condition & computer
is driving fuel trim lean-thus the code

Could be a bad O2 Sensor stuck lean

Could be a vacuum leak & lean codition
as a result

Need a repair shop or lots of studying
if your going to resolve & you can

2000 chevy silverado ,5.3 liter engine .service engine soon light on so scanned for problem codes ,results bank 1&2 are running lean .what is the cause or problem that needs to be done to fix

Check for loos connections between the intake and the tube from the air filter. Check if the clamp is loose or leaks in the tube which can cause an incorrect reading. Other than that it may be a dirty MAF sensor which can be fixed by spraying carb cleaning or tuner spray in the intake or it may be bad or a bad oxygen sensor;.

2004 Chevy Trailblazer 54,000mi Service Engine light after fill up. Diagnostic code P0171 lean fuel. Thinking bad fuel. Is there an additive to remove water or removing tank is the only fix

Sea foam is a really good product, you can also go to your local part store and check out the additves there. I know they make a water remover for diesels, but I have never searched one for gas. Thats about the best I could tell you, or it could just be a small hiccup in the system. I would say hit Auto Zone, or Advanced and get them to reset the light and throw some Sea Foam in the tank and see what happens. If the light comes back on just burn through that tank and get some fuel elsewhere to see if it happens again.

I have a 2003 ford winstar and the check engine light is on. The code readings say Bank 1 and bank 2 is lean. What does that mean?

It means both O2 Sensors, are reporting a lean
exhaust mixture. An out of range condition, that
set the check light

Now you need to figure out why--vacuum leak etc.

I would guess you need a repair shop, that can
diagnose that issue

P0146 pd means pending code
Pending codes and DTCs? Posted on November 12, 2010 by fcrmaster
When reading codes from your vehicle the fault code reader may show them as pending codes or normal Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
Pending codes (also known as continuous monitor codes) will be registered when an intermittent fault occurs. If that fault does not happen again after x number of start/stop cycles, the ECU will erase the code from memory. If the fault is persistent it becomes a DTC.
If you have read pending codes it is advisable to check the codes again after a week or so. If there is no apparent problem with the vehicle it is safe to erase the codes too and check back. But always make a note of any fault codes with the date and mileage of a vehicle.
If the codes read include a DTC then you need to investigate further. This you can either do yourself or advise your garage. If, again, you don't see an apparent problem (depending n the severity of the code) with the vehicle you can note the codes down and erase them. Then check again after a week or a few days depending on how often the vehicle gets used. If a repair has been made (previous owner) the DTC may just not have been reset after the repair.
The other numbers behind the code 01/06 , 02/06, 03/06 , 05/06 ,04/06 These don't mean anything . cheap code reader .
DTC P0140 HO2S Circuit Insufficient Activity Sensor 2
DTC P0146 HO2S Circuit Insufficient Activity Bank 1 Sensor 3
DTC P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1
DTC P0174 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2
Sorry but this is something you should take to a qualified repair shop that has a diagnostic tool that can view sensor scan data.

I have a 2006 Trailblazer. When it is cold outside the check engine light comes on. The code is P0171. But all summer and when temp is above 40 it goes out and stays out til the next cold day then comes...

Code P0171 is a lean oxygen sensor code for bank 1 on your engine. Bank 1 is always the side of the engine where #1 cylider is located.

There are a couple of Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's) that may apply to your problem.

Bulletin No.: 09-06-03-004C
This bulletin covers intermittent problems due to oxidation problems in some of the wiring connectors.

Bulletin No.: 03-06-04-030G
This bulletin outlines repair proceedures for clogged or restricted fuel injectors.

The only other thing I can think of would be a vacuum leak that occurs only in cold ambient temperatures and only affects bank 1. (possible intake manifold gasket or something similar.)
