My fuel filter neck rusted out,so I began using gas at other gas stations that I could still pump gas at,now my car suddenly began to stall, now it will not start at all.We bought a new battery and it would not hold a charge .Then I found out that my plugs are filed all the way out.How expensive do all these repairs seem to cost or better yet what could the real problem be?

Probably the rust from the filler neck got in tank and it may be clogging up the fuel filter. or maybe even the injectors. check fuel filter, replace plugs, then put some good fuel injector cleaner in it. this may help alot!! did you say you are having battery problems!! if the alternator is charging, you should have at least 14.2 volts at battery with car running. with it off. there should be at least 13 volts at battery. if alternator is less then above, replace it. unless you have a loose belt on alternator!! have a good day !!

Starts fine on choke give it gas loses power and stalls

First I'm not an auto mechanic, but I've come across this problem often (especially when buying a used car or filling up right after the gas station got a tanker load of fuel)
* Fuel (liquid) not getting to pump. Air bubble in line needs to be purged. Try starting several times instead of just leaving the pump on. It won't pump unless the air is purged.
* Got fuel but not running? Starts, then stalls. Check, clean or replace fuel filter. Probably got water in it. shake out and try again.
* still bad? New Computerized car? Need to take it in for service check. (at least the old classics could be fixed with a little know how and the willingness to get greasy!)

93 crown vic , when i had the the fuel pump replaced i had to dispose of gas like turpentine and extreme rust on the pump itsself even tho the tank is plastic i missing something simple ?

the rust and other liquid in the tank comes from petrol stations in ground fuel tanks which build up condensation and they rust from the inside out and then when you fill up it deposits it in your cars tank to build up to the point where it clogs up the fuel pump and filters thats why fuel filters are important and why they are fitted because they can't guarantee clean fuel supples

Chevy truck stalled on freeway after buying gas at a speedway station. Was it bad gas or fuel filter/fuel pump problem?

Good question. All you can do is hook a line up to the fuel rail to get some gas so you can inspect it. If the gas looks ok they you probably have either a fuel pump problem or ignition problem.

If you feel that before getting the fuel car was fine, and something has suddenly happened after re- fueling the car, it may be due to the contaminated fuel or the clogged fuel filter.

I have a 92 Storm GSI. When driving down the road the car stalls like it is out of gas then starts running. I have replaced the fuel filter, pump and relay. Any other ideas?

For the age of this car it is a combination of both the fuel filter and pump, i owned one several years ago and found that the gas tanks are prone to rust inside, if you have replaced the pump and filter you may want to drop the tank again and check the screen on the pump if it is brown you have rust in the tank: another problem i had ( if you bought an oem pump ) they tend to slip out of position, you can tie the pump it place so it doesn't move......

Water in your gas

Hi. You are correct, water in the tank can produce this type of interruption in normal operations. Water will choke the system and cause stalls and rust within the lines as well. You can purchase an fuel additive that can remove this water from the tank. Its available at your local auto parts store. I recommend (TECHTRON GAS TREATMENT). It will clean the lines and remove the water. Now, if you continue to experience this hesitation and stalling, you may have an issue with other components of the fuel system. Theses additional problems can be a faulty fuel pump or a clogged filter. I would check these areas if the stalling continues after using the fuel additive.

Please rate and god bless.
