SOURCE: Where is the thermostat located?

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Place a drain pan under the radiator drain and drain the cooling system to just below the thermostat level. Close the drain.
  3. Remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing, then remove the housing.
  4. Remove the thermostat and discard the gasket. 0900c15280042100.jpgThermostat installation detail—3.0L engine 0900c15280042101.jpgThermostat installation detail—3.3L and 3.8L engines
To install:
  1. Clean the housing mating surfaces.
  2. Dip the new gasket in clean water and place it on the water box surface.
  3. Center the thermostat on the gasket, in the water box. 0900c15280042102.jpgRemove the radiator hose from the waterneck by loosening the hose clamp . . . 0900c15280042103.jpg. . . then loosen and remove the waterneck housing retaining bolts
  4. Make certain the bolt threads are clean. Threaded bolt holes exposed to coolant are subject to corrosion and should be cleaned with a small wire brush or correct size thread-cutting tap. Install the housing, making sure the thermostat is still in the recess, and tighten the retaining bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm) for 3.0L engine or to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) for 3.3L and 3.8L engines. Reconnect the upper radiator hose and tighten the hose clamp.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system with a clean 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol antifreeze and water. 0900c15280042104.jpgLift the waterneck housing off of the lower intake manifold, then . . . 0900c15280042105.jpg. . . remove the thermostat out of its mounting flange
  7. Make sure the radiator is full and start the vehicle

SOURCE: serpentine belt for Dodge Caravan 1998, it repair

Go to auto zone rent a special tool used to release tension on the serpentine belt tensioner.

It's located on the left side looking at the engine from teh front,

You may not have a lot of room to fully pull back the tensioner SO have some ratchets ready and some sockets and a small pipe for leverage, it's a bear.

Your tensioner MAY be bad so you may have to replace it.

1998 Dodge 3.3ltr grand caravan overheats.I have repaced water pump,Thermostat,Had cracked head and replaced both of them with new ones,Replaces fans, replaced fan relay,All hoses,Radiator. When i start...

You would need to figure out if it is a cooling problem or something producing extra heat in the engine.
Is the radiator fan pulling enough air thru the condenser and radiator ?
Is the fan coming on and also when the ac is on and when the engine reaches 220 degrees ?
Is it possible the exhaust has a restriction somewhere ?

Hi i own a 1998 dodge grand caravan and the problem i have is that i fill the rad up and all the water comes out of the over flow draining the rad. can you please help me? thanks wendy

not good wendy, most likely cause is a blown cylinder head gasket, but have someone check to make sure the thermostat is opening( if you let the engine idle for around 10min the top radiator hose will get hot when the thermostat opens if the engine overheats before the top hose gets hot then replace the thermostat) if the thermostat is poening then supect the head gasket.

How do i replace the window shield wiper blade

The 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan has the most common hook-end wiper arms. See related links below for installation videos. Also, purchase the replacement blades first and there will be additional instructions/illustrations on the replacement packages. Locate and press the tab or button where the wiper blade is inserted into the hook of the wiper arm and pull wiper blade out of hook. You may have to rotate and flex the blade to make enough clearance for the hook to pass through.
