Question about 2007 Toyota RAV4

1 Answer

I had a clunking noise in the rear end after a wheel alignment, tire rotation, brake service, oil change etc. The rear end started to clunk especially over uneven road surface or bumps. It went in today and they called to tell me that the towbar was loose and clunking, they moved it and tightened it up and apparently all is well. I have NEVER heard of the towbar becoming loose. I've asked several at work and they agree it seems strange. Is this possible and if so would they have had to move anything near there during the last service?

Call BS on their answer. If rear alignment, probably left cam on rear strut loose. At least it is cured.

Never, I've seen them rust off. and there should be no reason to move it for a break service.

Clunk noise in front end

Do you have 4 wheel drive ? If you do you "could " have a problem with the transfer case. The noise you describe is indicative of transfer case issues.

Struts noise?

I would tend to believe it's more likely a worn sway bar bushing or link if it's a rattle or a small clunk, if it's a loud clunk probably a strut, try bouncing he back of the car when parked, if you get the clunk probably a strut if only when driving, turning, braking probably just a bushing on the sway bar

I hear a loud clunking noise coming from the rear of the truck every time i take off from a stop

Three things: Either the rear brakes are releasing, causing a clunk, try service and adjust rear brakes. If not, go to the drive shaft, check the u-joints and/or jack up the rear of the truck and rotate your tires by hand to see if there is a clunk in the rear end itself.

I hear a clunking noise each time i run over a bump in the rear end of my car.

Well if your spare is in its place got and tight and you don't have anything in your trunk that could make the clunking noise it sounds like your rear struts need to be chaanged, well at least one if you know what side the noise is coming from and it is better to change both at the same time and when you have the struts changed figure in a four way alignment. When you align the back most alignment machines are set up to do only front or all four not just the back. That way you don't wear out your rear tires prematurely.

Sounds like a clunking noise, like the sound you hear when you have a flat tire, Tire isnt flat. turning right on the wheel lessons the sound but stays the same turning left. noise seems to be getting...

its a wheel bearing. .will need to be inspected to determine the correct one. Also tires could also do this if the steel seperated internally. Rotate the suspected tire to see if it follows the tire.

Does your car have rear disc brakes? If so, it is likely a failure of the emergency brake that is inside the rear disc.

If it sounds like a rumble from back wheels it may be the rear end going out. Mine has been replaced twice with used rear end. You should be able to confirm it by looking at the rear tires both sides of tire for an oil leak or wet spot on tire or rim.
