You can bypass this, but you will need a schematic of the daytime running light module and lights.
You will have to cut and splice wires to bypass the module.

Where is the thermostat on dodge dakota 2005 v8 4.7 engine?

Locate radiator, find large upper radiator hose (about 2-3 inch) trace hose to it's connection to the engine. That connection is bolted to the engine. Under that device is the Thermostat for the engine. Once out, you can test it's opening properly in hot water, usually 180 F

I have a recently purchased Dodge Dakota 2005. It's in mint condition...but I bought it and put maybe 300 miles on it since I bought it and now when I start it the engine light is on and it sounds like...

I would get the computer checked for codes as soon as possible.
It could be a vac leak or something else. Extra air entering the intake will make the engine idle fast.

Will a regular key start a 2005 dakota.

unless it's a chipped key, sure.
I keep a cheap copy in my wallet. It will start my car (2004) but the engine shuts off after seconds because it didn't read the chip.

Assuming that your battery is not dead, and that you have checked the battery connections, the most likely problem is a bad starter solenoid and will need a new starter.

Auto headlights

Yes, the headlights normally will come on during the da. There is a photo sensor that controls this feature. You may refer to your owner's manual before assuming that there is any major issues. It is possible that this feature has been disabled at some point in the past. It is also possible that these "daytime driving lights" will only come on while the vehicle is in gear. In either case, I would definitely refer to your owner's manual to find out the details of how this system works, as many of today's auto manufacturers are starting to use a variety of different methods for enabling/disabling these types of features. Hope this helps and have a great day!
