Question about 1998 Volkswagen Golf
Hi! Do you mean that when you push the door to close it won't engage? If this is the case, please get a philips screw driver and slide it to the door grabber to rotate. It may be stuck causing it not to engage on the door striker. Hope this helps and thank you for using FIxYa!

Take off the door panel and check to see if the linkakge from the outer handle to the latch has become disconnected and for the closing problem lube the latch well more than likely its not opening fully when you pull the door open so when you go to close it it pushes the latch closed before the actual bar its suppose to latch to enters the latch

dissasemble the door, remove the door lock mechanism, soak it to some WD-40, leave it for 1 hour, then spray some active oil on it and put everything back to one piece.
