Remember lock washers or locking nuts if you are talking about the carrying barring in the middle of the drive shaft you will need a torch and the right safety equipment maybe a fire extinguisher, a flat head screwdriver and a vice. the nut that holds the carry-or barring on has a flange on it that is bent into a key-way you will need the torch to heat the nut and bend it out so because everywhere i could buy a replacement carryor baring didnt have the nut with it and could not find it on there parts lists. then the nut will need to be bent back in the key-way after replacing the carry-or baring.

Carburetor

Probably same. Datsuns are famous for keeping the same carburetors (and other parts, as well) with only minor year to year modifications. My '79 Datsun pickup 620, right now has a carb from a '73 Datsun 620 parts truck, runs okay-for a hitachi.
Check ebay for new, remanufactured, or used- pretty sure they would have a lot of carbs for your car. The best place to buy new or remanned carburetors, especially for our older datsuns, is rockauto.com. Very nicely planned (and huge!)catalog, too, with easy access.
Don't know about your 280Z, but with the 620's 2.0Liter engine(L20B), weber carburetors are all the rage now for them. They are excellent carburetors and very reliable, even claim to increase mileage over stock, but for $250, I guess I'll have to motor on with the old hitachi a bit longer.

Diagram for distributor cab and wires for datsun 510 1978 wagon

Firing order is 1 3 4 2. Distributor rotor turns counter-clockwise.

Standing in front of car looking at engine, number one cylinder tower is in the 4 o'clock position, number 3 cylinder tower is at the two o'clock position, number 4 cylinder is at 10 o'clock, and number two cylinder tower is at the 8 o'clock position.

Datsun 620 repair manual

Great little bullet-proof trucks! But a horse got the best of mine.
Haynes has a repair manual for the 620, about $26.00, at a parts store. Don't know of any on-line, but Yahoo has a Groups site devoted to the Datsun 620. You might want to check it out; it has some excellent, knowledgeable moderators. Good luck.

You can try faxonautoliterature.com. They list an original Datsun shop repair manual for a 1974 Datsun pickup but it is called a 620 not ud4. It's $39. I've used them before and had excellent service. Hope this helps.

Change head gasket 1974 Datsun 620 pickup

As far as compresion goes it is more important that all cylanders are close to each other than what the actual psi is they should be within about 5 psi of each other. When changing the head gasket on the 620 you need to make sure that you wedge the timing chain so that the chain tensioner does not pop out. If it does you need to remove the water pump and front engine cover to replace it. A 6 inch long piece of wood tapered from about 1 inch to about 1 3/4 inch should work. Other than that it's a very easy and straightforward job. I would recomend that you take the head to a machine shop and have it checked for warp, if the engine has been severly overheated it can cause the aluminum head to warp. I know this from personal experience. If there is some warpage just have the machine shop machine it back to flat so that the new head gasket dosen't leak. If you are getting oil comming OUT of the dipstick tube replace the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valveThe 620 is a great little truck and the L16 L18 and L20 engines were all very easy to work on and well designed. The downfall of almost all Datsuns was body rust.
