The carrier bearing is inside the rear end, in the middle, there are 2 of them, one on each side of the differential, what the ring gear attaches to, the assembly mounts into the middle of the rear end.

Front and back berring dissassembly of differential 2001 dodge 1500

For the rear diff., remove the driveshaft, brake drums, diff. cover, remove pinion flange nut, move diff carrier to access side gear retainer bolt and remove bolt, slide side gear pin out and push axles in to remove axle retainers and remove axels. Mark carrier bearing retainers, spin bearing retainers to loosen carrier for removal. Remove carrier, remove pinion out of diff case, then r&r bearings. Any shims should be replaced in their original location for depth and pinion to ring contact.

Remove Rear axle cover, and check the pinion shaft, it is the center bolt part in the middle of the carrier.

check your tires for a bad spot or a knot. this could cause the vibration. check you switch and see if it has power. if it does maybe the a relay.could also be a lose ground wire.

Rear end clunk in Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup

The noise is caused by the axle button being worn out, this lets the axle move back and forth and clunk, this is a unique problem with C clip retained axles, it is a noise issue but will not fail and cause any more damage, in order to fix it you must have the axles pulled and the diff carrier checked for excess wear where the axle retainning C clip rides, if the carrier is ok then replace the axles.
