Change the oil every 6000 miles and a oil filter every third oil change and it will run for ever ,use the cheapest oil preferably a petrol/diesel 10'/40 but the cheapest from the supermarket will suffice ,this will keep the internal workings of the engine clean and free from combustion clag .Never mind the salesman with their long life last forever oil at a silly price ,its all the same at the end of the day and dont worry about sinthetic or natural ,just use whatever comes along cheap ,you can even mix them with no detrimental effect.Even print this off and show it to the salesman if you like thats trying to sell you something you do not need ,i used to work in ford of dagenahm engine plant testing the oil as part of my job ,running a engine flat out till it blows up and then see what caused it ,just change it as stated and this truck will still be around when both of us are pushing up daiseys

This is my first car and I want to change the oil so I need to know what type of filter I need, spin on or cartridge?, plus quantity of oil need including filter

Good maintenance is what keeps a car, bike or truck safe and reliable and slows depreciation of the value.

Breakdowns can't be planned, they are never convenient and usually cost more to put right than can easily be afforded. Good maintenance can virtually eliminate breakdowns and the really good news is maintenance can be planned.

It is true that oil changes are important but there is much, much more to good maintenance than an oil change, in fact modern engines are so clean the oil change has lost much of it's traditional importance and moved down the list considerably.

I advise you to begin your car ownership as you mean to continue - by doing your best for your car. I suggest you begin by investing in a Haynes manual or similar for your car. The first couple of chapters cover maintenance schedules and how to complete each item and also provides valuable technical information such as oil grades, quantities and almost everything you will need to know.

Oil filters aren't expensive so if there is doubt about which to buy why not buy both sale or return.
Choose your brand of oil and there will be an application catalogue that will tell you the grade of oil and the quantity you need.

Good luck!

When turbo boost is over 30 psi and truck goes into exhaust cleaning mode all boost pressure is lost, and consequently all power as well. The only way to get boost back is to pull over turn truck off for 4...

i assume you are driving a 2008 superduty with a 6.4 liter. it should not lose power when in cleaning mode thatg is that drasticaly noticeable. be sure your maintenace is up to date. the first thnig our shop manual tells us is to check oil change and to change as needed. if you havent noticed the oil leel "grows" as you drive, if it gets high enough it can have an adverse afect on the engines performance. be sure to use original equiptment filters, and i suggest full synthetic motorcraft diesel oil. as a second note to your concern, there is/was a recall on performance for the 6.4 liter, recall #11b23. it is a computer upgrade for the engine, this too may help. your engine carries a 5 year 100,000 warranty from ford, if still under this, i would strongly suggest checkeding for recalls, oil change and seeing your local ford dealer! hope this helps ya!

Maintenance light came on along with what apprears to be low oil light? not sure as I purchased the truck use and it did not come with an owners manual

CHECK TO SEE IF IS LOW IN OIL/ THAT WOULD GIVE A GOOD RESON FOR THE LIGTHS TO COME ON . MAYBE OIL LEAK OR JUST LOW . I WOULD CHANGE THE OIL-FILTER -THEN KEEP CHECK ON OIL LEVEL TO SEE IF LEAKING OR USING OIL.

Yes. Remove the pressure transducer and screw in a "known good" external pressure gauge.

If you have correct pressure, the transducer (sender) may be faulty, check all wiring connections very well. If you find one connection terribly loose, fix it and retest before attaching an external gauge.

So, what if no oil pressure. Well, the only way to find that is surgery. Be aware that oiling systems have a pressure bleed off. This spring loaded pop off valve will open at set pressure. The effect is that you have WAY more volume of oil available, but typically lots of oil exits at the pressure valve. This valve is subject to particulate matter, that may keep it from closing.

Did the valves get noisy? If so, oil starved. Do not run engine any more, commence surgery.

If, on the other hand, the valves did not get noisy, that indicates oil WAS getting through...so possibly a sensor (sender, transducer, all the same function).

My suggestion is to NOT PARTS replace. Find the issue, and resolve that.

The procedure for resetting the oil change light is in your owners manual. If you don't have the manual try this. Turn key on (do not start engine) and push the gas pedal to the floorboard 3 times within 5 seconds. Turn key off and restart the truck. Light should be reset now.

How can i change the rear main oil seal on a 80 ford truck my truck leak oil and i change the seal on the oil pan and steel leaks

I would suggest you buy a Chiltons or Haynes repair manual for your truck. They run $15 to $20. This is a pretty tough do it yourself project. They will give a lot of good guidance, photos, and tips. It also depends on which motor you have. It will probably be a couple of pages worth of instructions.
