Fuel pump continues to try to function when truck key is off.while key is off if i switch to opposite tank that pump starts to function even w/key off

fuel pump is going bad. or your pressure return is stuck. or your relay to the fuel pump is sticking .plugged fuel filter. bad ground to the pump. that is all i can think of besides a faulty key switch.but most likely its a pressure issue fuel injection needs a certain amount of pressure to fire the injector so when you change tanks the pump has a pressure change so the pump starts to keep up pressure. hope it helps

I have a 1990 f150 4x4 with dual tanks. when did ford stop having the high pressure rail fuel pump. I was told 1992 but the parts store told me they show only intank furl pumps for my truck. What is...

I have the same truck as you. Mine has the pumps inside the tank also. If both tanks stopped working at the same time, you might want to check your tank selector switch. I've had 2 of them go bad in the 6 years yhat i've had this truck.

1990 F150 Fuel pump just replaced but wont turn on

Replace the fuel pump relay. And if your truck has dual tanks there's three fuel pumps, one in each tank and another secondary fuel pump.

1992 f-150 dual gas tanks tank closest to cab of truck pumps gas out the fuel cap

A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

1990 ford f150 cross over valve location

Please Help ME by Remembering to RATE ME Thank you Vrey Much !!!

This vehicle does not use an external fuel tank switching valve. A supply check valve in the fuel pump assembly opens when the outlet pressure from the energized fuel pump exceeds the opposing check valve spring force.

R E C A L L 1991
THE DUAL FUEL TANK SELECTOR VALVE MAY MALFUNCTION AND CAUSE AN OVERFILL CONDITION IN ONE OF THE FUEL TANKS, RESULTING IN AN OVERFLOW OF FUEL PAST THE FILLER CAP.
THE OVERFLOW OF FUEL PAST THE FILLER CAP CAUSES A FUEL LEAKAGE, WHICH CAN RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
REPLACE THE DUAL FUEL TANK SELECTOR VALVE.
