sounds like your tranny might be fried. Check the fluid on the dipstick on a paper towel if its black on the towel it might have gotten hot smell it for a burnt smell.

2002 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1ltr enging and a 4 speed automatic trans. The trans has a whinning sound when driving. It's not slipping and shifts correctly. It just has a whinning sound. What could the...

The most common whining noise from that tranny is the transmission pump. Sometimes they have a high pitch whine noise yet nothing wrong its normal. Sometimes its an indication of the pump being over-worked due to a dirty filter or fluid low. Turn engine on and check tranny fluid level. If low add to cold mark on dipstick, check for leaks under vehicle. If fluid appears very black or burnt smell, recommend flushing fluid and replacing filter (located inside tranny pan) yours will be a 4L60E type tranny.

1999 Blazer -4x4 4.3 liter 140,000 miles- lost reverse...no prior problems or symtoms...happened pretty much at once, Fluid ok...linkage appears to be ok....time for new tranny?

That year of blazer would have the electronic transmission in it, a 4L60E I believe? A pretty common problem I have seen with people who have the same kind of vehicle is the control module for the transmission and not so much the transmission itself, especially in 4x4's. Often times this problem occurs after going out wheeling, and it's often as simple as reconnecting the plug on the tranny, or pulling it off and cleaning off the contacts, or if that doesn't work then head to the junkyard and pull the module off of one from there (and hope that it didn't have the same problem)

I DON'T WANT TO GIVE YOU FALSE HOPE, YOU CAN TRY IT, BUT MY 95 CARAVAN DID THAT SAME THING, AND ONE DAY WHILE IN TOWN IT JUST STOPPED. FIRST INSPECT THE EXTERIOR OF THE TRANSMISSION, CHECK THOROUGHLY INCLUDING THE DIFFERENTIAL MINE WAS SPLIT SO I GOT LUCKY AND ONE WAS GIVEN TO ME SO PLEASE CHECK IT OUT. ALSO SMELL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. BE SURE TO SMELL FRESH FLUID SO YOU GET AN IDEA OF HOW THE FLUID SMELLS. IF IT IS DARK LIKE DINGY AND SMELLS COOKED THEN MY FRIEND IT IS TIME FOR A NEW ONE

1995 Chevy S10 Blazer

IT IS NOT GOING INTO NEUTRAL. IT HAS LOST THE DIRECT DRIVE CLUTCH PACK INTERNALLY. SOUNDS LIKE IT IS HIGH MILEAGE. IF SO AND YOU CHANGE THE FLUID IT CLEANS UP ALL THE VARNISH IN THE TRANNY AND THE END RESULT IS TRANNY MALFUNCTIONS DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF CARE IT HAS HAD IN THE PAST.
